Kodak Tri-X 400 R80 1/250 5,6

Leiden (Netherlands) Cemetery

28131803qd.jpg

Very nice picture SilentS

A nice balance in black grey and white and the "soft" side when watching the picture give an advantage to film

It's peaceful for my eyes when I watch a film picture , no agressivity , no "cutting" lines and edges like in digital.

Best

Sheep?!?!

I have some sheep!!

OR are they goats??!?

Hell, I don't know!  I was just driving to Tel Aviv one morning through the West Bank close to one of the security checkpoints and I saw these Palestinian shepherds with these animals and I thought of Ian.  So I jumped out of my car and went after them :)

Was impatient and got a roll of film processed at those 2 hour places, as it is my first roll of film ever, I am not sure what to think of the results. I think that it could definitely be sharper, the scanned resolution was only 1818x1228, which is a tiny file. I've got a few rolls of film to be developed at a more quality place, but these are the results;

Leica M6, Summilux-M 35 ASPH, Kodak Colorplus 200

I'm wondering if I might have your thoughts on these four framings of the scene? I haven't harmonised the colour between them but just left Adobe Camera Raw at 'as shot'. I had to shoot them in a fairly quick succession because the sun was just about to disappear below the horizon (which it did in the last one). There are 2000dpi scans on Flickr for those who want to grain peep :)

Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

Wow nice color series Asap. Yes you can improve by scanning to 5400x4600 px

With the Summilux 35 , a good lens , the definition is very sharp with very nice

color. What scan do you have ?

Thanks for posting.

Hi Henry, the scanner that was used at the printing place was a Fuji SP-3000, I have not gotten myself a film scanner yet. What would you recommend as a good one for me to scan my own personal negatives?

I hope that the next place I get to process the film will develop them so as the colour and sharpness will be as sharp as I have pictured in my head!

Gary and other gentlemen here will tell you the scan they use ,  but Epson flatbed is good (I had Epson V700 now sold) and you can also scan Medium Format later with this scanner. You can have V700 second hand for 200 Euros in good condition.

Plustek is also good, I think Gary will tell you something . I have Nikon Coolscan 5000 for 24x36 negative and as back up a second Coolscan V

I also develop myself color (and b&w) film. IMO it's very easy and cheaper less than 2 Euros for one roll of Kodak Portra.

Henry has suggested the Epson flatbed style or the Plustek, and I agree, as I own both.

The Epson is exceptional, and doubles for medium format obviously, whereas the Plustek is 35mm only.

Find a second-hand unit and start there, but even the Plustek is not too badly priced new, assuming you are in the US.
