I finally had a chance to get ancient Voigtlander Virtus to f16. I love old cameras and glass.

Good point, Mark.  It is really true.  Extraneous noises really bother me as a general matter yet when I hear a viciously loud and obnoxious exhaust coming from a motorcycle I instinctively will check the make of motorcycle and only if it is a Harley will my brain filter it through as "acceptable" :)  Very weird, indeed.

Nice pic.

Good you don't want one.  Why is it that Harley Davidsons can get away with that noise when ANY other vehicle or motor bike would be taken off the road and fined immediately, or probably not even get registered in the first place?

Thanks for your feedback, Phil.  Yes, marketing is really the key.  And luck.  Ok, pretty much only luck   :)

I fully agree with the point about how even the most successful photographs have color renditions that distort reality.  Just look at this very well known photograph taken by Peter Lik from the Top of the Rock.  This photo hangs quite large in the lobby of my office building and I am sure the building owners paid well north of $10K-20K for it..   And I guarantee you the sky didn't look like that! :)  I have the benefit of viewing a full res version of this close up multiple times per day and I just cannot get over how unrealistic and amateurish the color rendition appears.

I think it would be fair to say that Peter Lik is a far better marketer/salesman than he is photographer. In this way he has become one of the wealthiest "photographers" ever, having (according to his website) sold over $500 million worth of product.

Doesn't seem quite right, does it?

Thank you, Philip.   I do think that many of Peter Lik's nature photos are top notch, especially the ones he took on film.  I think there is a good reason for this - b/c he lives not too far away and can return to those locations again and again and increase his chances of getting those magic weather conditions.  When you have to travel quite far for photo opportunities, you are stuck with the weather that Mother Nature decides to give and so the magic of your resulting photos will be be based on the luck of the draw.    This other NYC cityscape (attached here), this time from the top of the Chrysler Building (to which he was given exclusive access), looks to be from the same trip as the trip that he took the photo that I shared yesterday.  The progress of the construction of the new Freedom Tower is a clear given away (it is the same in both images).   It also looks like he added LOTS of drama to the sky (basically making up a colorful sunset that didn't exist) and the result is a photo masked all over with magenta.  If he lived here he would most certainly be able to keep returning to these locations until he gets the "perfect" shot (like I understand he does out west in the Grand Canyon region).  This is where a NYC resident has an advantage :)

I will play around with your suggestion of adding depth - thanks for that :)

Terrific - and rather weird - photo, Wayne. One wonders what the relationship is between the persons in the centre.

I like this one Adam and it is heaps better than Lik's photo which looks unreal to me. As I understand it from this NYT article he sells 'limited' editions photos the price of which increases as the print run ends. Some people have, incredibly, paid dearly for these 'fine art' (gaaah I detest that term) photographs which has made his name. That plus his use of a PR company I believe.

I don't mind the haze at all but think it adds a nice atmosphere. You could try to burn through it using LAB and curves but I'd keep it. You could do some selective dodging and burning for some of the buildings receding towards the background which would strengthen the 3D impression of the photo.

You have convinced me to buy Ektar :)

I hate you Gary, now I have to buy a Super-Angulon :)

Wayne - There is nothing more that a protestor/demonstrator likes than a good photographer -  So I wouldn't worry :)

As near as I could tell, they were attendants to a Right to Life gathering. The person in the center of the photo caught my eye immediately as I crossed the street. I believe those are her children, or grandchildren. I do like the expression of the young man's face. Not to worry: I was confident I could outrun any/all of them.

Lovely, colors from the market.  Nice!

Some pictures in the 1980's , taken with my Leicaflex

great memories for these first pictures with this camera

They're taken with an M6 50/2. Trying to find out if it's Kodak; I think it is too.

Adam, with all the respect for this photographer, he has a disability (and as I said earlier)

is to have taken the photo in digital.  (you can see it by the edges very sharp or too sharp

in the first picture above)  which already loses its charm, after the color is different from yours

in Hasselblad and film !

The last photo is a crop of digital, I think is even more ugly and the color is horrible

For depht Adam , may be add more contrast ?

Thank you for your comment of HN market

Very nice colours in all the market photos, Henry. I can see that the sunlight above looks strong   ...the sort of light situation which can make realistic colour dodgy to render.

Yes you're right , sunny and very hot , heatwave time (already in 1980)

and I think Fuji Provia or Velvia is well advised in these conditions

Thanks for your comment Suede

2 films developed and drying, one Portra 400 from the M6 TTL an XP2 from the M3. Finished the colour film yesterday at Pennard and Southgate yesterday afternoon on the coast in Gower. The b&w has some shots of Neath canal from a lunchtime walk last week. May have some scans ready later when they are dry.
