Well, you have certainly been busy, Adam - two photo-books!   Will shortly click on your links and have a perusal.   :)

Ha, ha, yes, I have had a lot of this in my head but was recently incentivized by a 50% coupon that I received from Blurb :)

Thanks you, Henry!

I know a lot of people and websites that talk a lot about gear.  I think this is fine if the goal is to connect with other photographers (like on Flickr).  But end consumers who will be considering having one of my prints in their home or office or gallery will not care at all about what gear I used.  They just care about what it looks like to them and for many people the background of the photographer and his or her vision may also be of interest (thisis where a note regarding an all-film workflow is potentially of interest, but to me only as a high level notation).    Just my opinion...

Adam my opinion is a little different from yours.
I have seen books printed with the list of photographic material that the author puts at the end or at the beginning
It allows to assert your photos ... that it is not taken with a Huawei :)

What is your opinion of all of you here  ?

Dear Henry - you must be very familiar with that joke at HCB used say regarding this matter:  When you are looking to buy a book you don't ask what kind of typewriter was used !!! :)

Either way, it won't make it into any of my artistic presentations outside of LUF, Flickr or similar venues

I'm with Adam, Henry. Listing gear outside of the context of a gear forum or blog interview (if the question is asked) is a big no no for me. Photographs either stand or fail irrespective of the type or brand of equipment.

Adam why do you then state on your website that you use film ipv digital? :)

First one is excellent Gary. Do you still have the ETRSi?

No Philip, unfortunately.

Well, I have more than enough gear, but if there was ever a bargain for the starting M/F user, it would be an ETRSi, with a couple of lenses, and the AE head, plus a couple of film backs.

Cheap as chips now, and a very capable system.

Yes, Christoph, you are correct that I do note that I use an all-film workflow.  I feel that this relevant to my photographic approach, passion and philosophy, i.e, it shows more deliberateness and effort involved with making a fine art photograph vs digitial.  I deliberately only touched on the subject in this context only.  I don't want to make a huge deal out of it but I do think that having a flavor of the investment of personal time and effort that is involved with my workflow (and the classic film look that people should look out for in my photos) relative to a much more "plug-and-play" digital workflow helps sell the "fine art" bit of the storyline.

This is very different from then going on to make a list of all the different lenses and cameras and formats and filters and model numbers and film stocks and development techniques and scanning techniques and let's not forget the editing techniques and did I mention the lenses and how old they are and whether they are coated or not or even multi coated and whether I use a tripod and - oh yes - a PRISM FINDER and focusing screen and also about my all manual spot metering techniques and about the zone system and how I apply it in order to achieve a particular rendition (except when I f$ck up and use Tmax 400 instead of Ektar 100 and get lucky)....... All of this - to me - falls into the same category of "gear talk" and should be left amongst fellow passionate photographers.  :)

I want people to have "traditional/classic film photographer" in their minds when viewing my photos - not "Leica, Linhof, or Hasselblad, sumilux, biogon, planar, SWC, etc" photographer - if you know what I mean...?

I have an interest in what was used, for sure, but agree with Adam, in this context. Ultimately it is his decision anyway, and I certainly respect that.

The fact that it was all done with a Huawei is also immaterial, if the photographer is good enough, let the pictures speak for themselves.

Good on ya Adam.

I fully agree that a photo (and the context of its presentation) will generally speak for itself. (There may be exceptions, but let's leave those aside for now)

What an individual likes to mention or not wrt equipment etc used for picture taking is up to him or her, and may be influenced further by the intended target group.

In conclusion: I'm not Adams target group!

Well said, Christoph. One thing is for sure, there is almost nothing that i enjoy more than discussing gear and the technical aspects of photography. And i have over 7000 posts to prove it! :)
