Very nice! This is still on my list to go there and make some pictures.

James I agree with Dirk a nice castle in a nice country Bavaria

Wonderful autumn color

Thanks James for your new "attempt"

Best

Henry

Glorious, James.  The clouds appear to have a slightly green cast and was wondering whether it was intentional.  Easily corrected with a very slight tint slider tweak.  As it is it has a old world feel.

Thank you for your feedback! Neuschwanstein Castle is indeed worth a visit. Unfortunately we where to late for a tour through the castle itself, but walked up to the hill and I found the time to take some pictures. As this was a rather dull autumn day, I was surprised to see how much people where there for a visit. It must be awful in summer times  :o

I tried to remove the green color cast, but it wasn't a "slight tint slider tweak", rather a play with all LR color sliders involved. I will go with Yoda: "Much to learn you still have...my old palawan. This is just the beginning!"

Here is the tweaked version. Please let me know if this is the right path:

It's always fine for me James

It seems for me that the stone of the castle is closer to the reality in the first picture if my memory is good

Best

wow, Gary, those look like a myriad of skulls!

I recall seeing the shot from further back but this one is lovely with its tonal and compositional contrasts.

Back to some B&W.

Good ones, Eoin.   That SWC is a challenge in terms of how close you can get.  You still had about 10-20 steps to go before you'd have been too close...

This thread moves fast!

Thanks, Philip.  A cropped the other b/c I had taken a bunch and wanted to see if I could get a different POV.  The square worked ok with the second one I posted but the others I thought were better  formatted in landscape due to the amount of sky that was in the shot (w/o any interesting clouds)

I like the simplicity of this photo with large colourful areas. A question, why do you sometimes crop the 6x6 photos? I used to routinely shot Velvia 50 at EI100 to get the amazing saturation. I like this effect a lot.

Very nice Henry. I like the sweeping coast line and the shadow areas.

There's something about film and rain. Very nice Eoin.

James - I think your tweaks took away some of the wonderful colors in the trees in the foreground.  Here is a version along the lines of what I was thinking...not sure it is to your taste.  Only adjusted the tint slider and very little...

Hi Adam, in your version of the Neuschwanstein picture I see a magenta cast at the rocks beneath the building. While trying to cope with this effect myself, I reduced the saturation of magenta, red and purple, resulting in the loss of those colors in the trees. The good thing all over this: All the results are much more convincing than the prints I got from the lab. :) An easy workaround to the color problem:

Your shadow picture is absolutely amazing! I remember a similar picture from you a while ago, where the shadows where partly cut off. This time you nailed it perfectly!

Neil,

Wanted to answer this last night but the tablet failed.

Where you stay in Paris is as subjective as "what camera/lens do I take".

In 2007 as travel newbies we stayed in a hotel on Blvd Magenta. It was average/cheap, but adequate, just.

2013 we stayed in the Marais area, and in 2015 the Latin Quarter, bth times in apartments (via AirBnB).

Where you stay though makes litte difference, there is always something interesting to photograph in Paris.

If you're looking for the obligatory tourist sights, then aim for those areas. Otherwise, get yourself a nice hotel (or apartment) and just enjoy the city.

Take your M6.

Gary

Neil

Seriously consider the AirBnB option, my wife and I have done that several times and have stayed in some amazing places.

You are right, James, on all counts.  I'd love to be able to visit that site one day.

(And thanks for the feedback on my shadows :) )

No I mean during the street performance the crew will ask for volunteers and these "poor" people end up being publicly pressured at the end of the performance to give large $20+ tips.  The street performers do everything possible within the bounds of the law to extract max cash from the volunteers.  And, yes, I have even seen them grab wallets from time to time (in public and all part of a joke) and grab cash out.

Christoph - To put a finer point on it, the poor tourists bending over are a few minutes away from being publicly "shaken down" - most gave $20+...  It is hard to say no for some people in this position... (Notice the Muslim woman in the front bending over...yikes  :o )
