erl Posted September 14, 2016 Share #20961 Posted September 14, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I like mine so much that I have two, one for each bag. Ok, I have two b/c I get forgetful with my meter... Philip - whatever you do, you should get a 1 degree spot meter as it is most precise. Yes, the 1 deg is extremely functional, when needing/desiring a hand held meter. IRC Philip, you have the Hasselblad 203FE, am I correct? If so, I very much recommend you consider the dedicated 203FE 45Deg prism. It gives a very ergonomic handling aspect to the camera, and the built in meter (in body) is what I describe as a "Fat Spotmeter". The measuring angle is approx the same as the central focus area but is NOT centre weighted. ie. identical to the Leica M7 spot reading. ie. very accurate, reliable and fast.

philipus Posted September 14, 2016 Share #20963 Posted September 14, 2016 Yes, I agree, the meter in the 203 is really quite amazing. I don't think it's ever given a bad reading (poor exposure is in my case always my fault haha). A 45 degree prism is next on my list for the Hasselblad actually. I read Karen Nakamura's interesting write-up at photoethnograpy.com about her search for a prism and eventually settled on the simple unmetered PM5. I'm inclined to do the same. I can imagine that having large bright salt formations in the frame might fool a meter, much like snow can do? Bateleur Posted September 14, 2016 Share #20968 Posted September 14, 2016 My pleasure, Philip. If you decide to buy one, you might consider the Minolta Spotmeter F. It is an "oldie but a goodie" and very reasonably priced. I'll chime in on that Philip, my Minolta Spotmeter is married to the Hasselblad I use it in conjunction with a Zone dial from Ralph Lambrecht as it's useful (for me) to match the ev number to a greyscale zone - http://www.waybeyondmonochrome.com/WBM2/Welcome.html

christoph_d Posted September 14, 2016 Share #20970 Posted September 14, 2016 A picture taken without spotmeter, without tripod or large format equipment, not really sharp, and not really exposed on a top-notch emulsion. Still, at least for me the resulting image represents very well the atmosphere late in the afternoon on that sunny day deep in the Provence. Welcome, dear visitor! philipus Posted September 14, 2016 Share #20973 Posted September 14, 2016 (edited) Very interesting shot Christoph. Agree it has painterly qualities. Also interesting that it almost looks digital due to the colour noise from the scanning. A miller Posted September 14, 2016 Share #20979 Posted September 14, 2016 Some more boat life from Montenegro (Agfa Vista 200 at EI50). Flickr 90 E-M Flickr 50/1.4A Flickr 90 E-M (colour needs a bit more work on this one methinks) I dont think so, Philip. The last is simply a function of the incredible bright day and reflections. Without a PL, in order to get more natural color in the sky you'd have needed to stop down, which would have lost some of the shimmer in the water. Perhaps a little less exposure could have been ideal, but it is still lovely. I really like the theme of rendition that your first teo illistrate. Incredibly sharp and classic colors with an airy feel. Very unique Very cool shot, Adam, and a really nicely exposed too. I can imagine that having large bright salt formations in the frame might fool a meter, much like snow can do? Yes, exactly. Just like snow and ice. But once i find the well and evenly lit scene, it makes the metering very simply; with the slide film and these very bright whites, there is zero creative latitidue. The EV of the salt MUST be in the sweet spot appropriate for the slide film. the extra shot that i took helped ensure success, as well as the restraint i mustered not to over-use my polarizing lens. Wonderful color and superb image Adam a pity electric poles I know it's not your fault Adam Best Henry Thanks, Henry. These street light poles are easily removable in photoshop i'd have thought. But for some reason they dont bother me...
