600 million year-old precambrian granite, and somewhat younger sessile oak, moss and lichens living in close harmony make a nice combination of colours and textures. A couple of things to note about the hardware I used to make the image here is the very fine grain of Portra 400 and the old Solinar lens's contrast and ability to record detail and colour.

Not easy to take this Ranunculus in macro

the yellow of the flower is always a little light and not enough contrast
but with bokeh of the lens reproduced by film I think it does well here

Spring is coming :)

taken few days ago and developed yesterday

Sharing an exposure from a bad batch of Cinestill 50 from my recent trip to Miami Beach.

Notice the schmootz in the sky...

Totally ruined the vibe of my Nordic yoga man

Many of the exposures from this roll share the same schmootz patterns as has been shared by MarkP.

Interestingly, the second roll of Cinestill 50 that I have been scanning does not have this schmootz and appears to be normal.

I have a few more rolls to go and we shall see...

Life lesson: only shoot PRO films - life is too short for "batch inconsistency" issues!!!

Sorry to see this Adam, I've been following Mark's, and now your progress. I first agreed with the masses, Mark's film looked desperately like processing issues, the "grubbiness" on the emulsion especially.

But now yours, and you both are of the opinion it is all to do with the film? I'm amazed.

If nothing else it gives further weight to your controversial thread about only using the best film :D .

Thanks for the shoulder, Gary.

Yes, indeed, as a consolation, my thesis from my thread has now been conclusively and definitively established and soon will be on its way to the Pulitzer Prize committee for consideration for the next prize in excellence in the arts...

I am wondering whether schmootz is a technical term :-)   i have had issues with some cinestill 800 before, and also with the Eastman XX. Like 'em both, but would no longer trust them for anything other than fun shooting around town. Wish that weren't true, but there is a lot of things I wish for -- like getting all the numbers right for Lotto

Steve - indeed, one can only really rely on death and taxes in this world.   Nonetheless, next time I will mix in more portra 160 into my beach shooting workflow.  Slightly less magical, but more balanced and reliable.

I shot two rolls of TMAX with an orange 040 filter...... Horrible, way to much contrast. I used these filters with the MM and had far better results......... Learning learning learning
