Great shot, Ian. Very funny too. I also like the other ones and fully agree with the imperfections bit.

A bronze age tumulus (one of many dozen on this Dorset ridge) and some inquisitive sheep for Henry. T-max 400 (I think) and 35 Summicron ASPH.

A very classic and serene cemetery photo.

I like the composition and the selective lighting on this one. That Rollei film seems fairly fine-grained for a 400, or?

I do like museums, they are enjoyable places.

I very much like the detail in this one and the 'action' at the lower part of the frame.

I want to show you the reason "Why I shoot film" :)

It's simple , for color the digital is not satisfying

Demonstration digital (M9) versus film (M7-35 LA-KodEktar100)

same time,same place

Tam Ky beach

September 2016

Look and compare the color of sand, sky , sea , also boats and trees in background

I must corrected in LR to get closer sand of film , but cannot arrive perfectly even

impossible ...you still have a light magenta in digit.for sand

Need correction with M9,no correction with film. The color of original sand is a beige - little yellow

Ian, Phil, Christopher, Adam, Gary, Henry, thank you very much for your thoughts. I really appreciate them. I'm about to relaunch my overhauled site so I'm trying to figure out which version to include. Your views help a lot in deciding.

br

Philip

I find compositions that run through the middle (usually vertically but often horizontally) quite satisfying (rule of thirds be damned) so this one for me. I also like the shape and tones of the water lapping in the foreground.

Nice pictures, Philip, and a really worthwhile exercise in imagining the preferred outcome.

I personally prefer numbers 2 and 4 equally. Number 1 I like but I think 2 does it better. I am at odds with Ian on this as I think #3 looks a little indecisive - both the empty sky and water are attractive, but for me #3 is a bit too much of an each-way bet. #4 works for me because the water fades to an inky, mysterious blackness, which I like.

I agree

Christopher

#2 for me, Philip.
To me this shot needs a disproportionate amount of sky to be in natural balance visually. Jusy my opinion

First one for me Philip.
Gary

Philip after watching several times , I prefer much sky so picture 1 and 2 for me as the subject is sunset.
That said color is very nice on the four pictures :)
Thanks
Henry

In my experience, a large number of people in Marrakech are openly averse to photographers taking pictures. In this picture, I see the person (who could be a butcher or something of the sort in that hole-in-the-wall shop to the right) making a dissuasive gesture possibly intended for the photographer...

You are right about that. Moste peple in that part of town (center) werent welcoming me taking pictures – mostely the shop owners or asociated people. A little away from the center – it was more easy to do so. I think it was a boutcher shop – he noticed  me frameing and he wasn't to fond of that.

My experience is in Algeria less in Tunisia , and it's almost difficult to shoot people

Sometimes I can but it was "stolen" pictures , many factors traditions, customs ,

religion intervene .... ... at the opposite in SE Asia, no problem for me and people even ask

to be photographed sometimes with a smile

I think may be it's a same in Jerusalem with Adam !

Best

Henry

I have verry diverse experiences – in dependence of where and what to shoot – as well as you mentioned it – traditions, customs, religion – in my humble experience I do draw the line between places that get shot a lot – like markets and more rural sites – regarding the Suke in Jerusalem – its so crowded – so vibrant – especialy on fridays – nobody takes notice of you taking a picture when you are quick.

In the end you cant make a prediction – In Malalysia it wasnt easy at all for that instance – I think it boils to wether you are welcome to take s.o. picture – and in case your are not – it bekomes a decison to take it anway.

Best Andreas

I've only been shooting film for the last 5 or so months, but I'm loving it. The feel, the process, and the look are all part of what makes it so enjoyable for me.

Wow, Andreas, these ladies look so sad!  Are they sitting there selling little things?

Very lovely, Mike.  Welcome and look forward to seeing more!

I'm wondering if I might have your thoughts on these four framings of the scene? I haven't harmonised the colour between them but just left Adobe Camera Raw at 'as shot'. I had to shoot them in a fairly quick succession because the sun was just about to disappear below the horizon (which it did in the last one). There are 2000dpi scans on Flickr for those who want to grain peep :)

Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

Very nice colors. My favorite is #2 (or #1).
