Doc Henry Posted January 22, 2017 Author Share #26522 Posted January 22, 2017 (edited) As I said above to Adam (I took several sunsets or sunrises in M digital and film for comparison) during my last mission. In same Isos (160 Isos) and same lens, the color is different ! IMO film reproduces more faithfully the color rendering when I compare the two systems ! Since it is electronic , which is in the digital camera, we are in the presence of 2 systems, one of which goes through the electronic circuits and through the photo software of the camera , the camera is somehow a "robot" image.... Not easy in my opinion to obtain the same rendering and color in these conditions ! Kodak Portra 160 no correction needed Leica M7-35 Summilux Asph Welcome, dear visitor! philipus Posted January 22, 2017 Share #26523 Posted January 22, 2017 Terrific - and rather weird - photo, Wayne. One wonders what the relationship is between the persons in the centre. IIIA, Mountain/Street Elmar, HP5 image122997 (1)-2.JPG I like this one Adam and it is heaps better than Lik's photo which looks unreal to me. As I understand it from this NYT article he sells 'limited' editions photos the price of which increases as the print run ends. Some people have, incredibly, paid dearly for these 'fine art' (gaaah I detest that term) photographs which has made his name. That plus his use of a PR company I believe. I don't mind the haze at all but think it adds a nice atmosphere. You could try to burn through it using LAB and curves but I'd keep it. You could do some selective dodging and burning for some of the buildings receding towards the background which would strengthen the 3D impression of the photo. You have convinced me to buy Ektar br Philip Thanks, Christoph. I am not sure I am quite following the connection between the point that every photograph is by definition a distortion of reality and the point that the rendition of a sky needs to be the way it looked in person (or that is how I intended it)... Seems a little incongruous, but perhaps it is too late for me as I haven't quite hit my Sunday yet I attached a tweaked version that warms up the foreground a bit.... My only regret of this is that I wish it weren't so hazy, which is very odd for a cold winter evening... Top of the Rock 2.jpg I fully agree with the point about how even the most successful photographs have color renditions that distort reality. Just look at this very well known photograph taken by Peter Lik from the Top of the Rock. This photo hangs quite large in the lobby of my office building and I am sure the building owners paid well north of $10K-20K for it.. And I guarantee you the sky didn't look like that! I have the benefit of viewing a full res version of this close up multiple times per day and I just cannot get over how unrealistic and amateurish the color rendition appears. wg902-metro-aurora.jpg I hate you Gary, now I have to buy a Super-Angulon And having an affliction for bikes (although no real desire to ever own a Harley, don't know why, just never really desired one). Same details as above but lens is the diminutive SA21/4. Gary
Wayne Posted January 22, 2017 Share #26524 Posted January 22, 2017 Wayne nice picture showing us some worried faces. Is't a demonstartion ? Best Henry Yes, I believe those folks were in attendance at a Right to Life rally held at Fountain Square in Cincinnati. We also had the Cincy version of the women's march going on. Wayne Posted January 22, 2017 Share #26525 Posted January 22, 2017 Terrific - and rather weird - photo, Wayne. One wonders what the relationship is between the persons in the centre. As near as I could tell, they were attendants to a Right to Life gathering. The person in the center of the photo caught my eye immediately as I crossed the street. I believe those are her children, or grandchildren. I do like the expression of the young man's face. Not to worry: I was confident I could outrun any/all of them.

Keith (M) Posted January 22, 2017 Share #26530 Posted January 22, 2017 Lovely images Keith. Being a predominantly Fujifilm (Acros) user, your pictures are enticing me to try some of the Kodak BW film stock Thank you Ramesh. I settled on a Tri-X / Rodinal 1:50 combination after periods with HP5+ and Neopan 400. Works for me Acros 100 is my no. 1 choice for ISO 100 b&w film, both 35mm & MF.
Doc Henry Posted January 22, 2017 Author Share #26531 Posted January 22, 2017 I just returned from a mountain bike ride under a blue sky and minus 7 degrees CelsiusI have with me my Leicaflex , it is my first time with this camera for long years.... I put a roll of Kodak TMAX400. Lots of backlit contre-jour pictures, some with jets line for Philip I still have some photos to take before finishing the roll. As soon as it is finished, I will develop and share with youThe triggering noise of the Leicaflex is unique, no battery for electronic shutter and everything is mechanical except the lightmeter which needs a battery.
