Popular Post John Robinson Posted November 1, 2020 Popular Post Share #72163 Posted November 1, 2020 (edited) The good thing about "dusty old negatives" (in my case, well-processed, well-stored negatives) is that you can revisit them (or reprint them) as technology improves. I looked at my "misty London South Bank" images (from April 2005) and realised that, when I first scanned them, the limiting factor was not the Nikon SC5000ED, already quite capable of producing 24MPixel scans at 16bit pixel depth (140MByte raw files) but the limits of computer processing power and disk space. Hence I had scanned to JPEG. The results are OK but could be better. This time at full scanning resolution. Welcome, dear visitor! And amazing how well the Summitar renders [....] The Summitar is one of the surprises in the Leica 50mm collection: I have compared it (on an SL) with the collapsible Summicron (which replaced it) and various later Summicrons (R and M) and I have to say that it has a particular and very attractive way of drawing the image. I like it more than the version 1 Summicron. The main challenge is to avoid flare and to find a copy that has not had the front element scratched to bits by 60 years of cleaning ...
