Popular Post philipus Posted May 19, 2020 Popular Post Share #69342 Posted May 19, 2020 This is a humble little sand dune on the Tofta beach on Gotland, shot on that 'cheap' film stock Kodak Gold 200. It might be slightly more grainy than Portra but it does give great, natural-looking colour if treated right. Welcome, dear visitor! It is kind of funny, although it involves a ridge of plain old prairie grass instead of a sand dune, I have been shooting it over and over again for years; this is exactly the quality I have been trying to achieve, but have failed. So much for the Kodak Gold Nay-Sayers. Did you go out with the intent to shoot Kodak Gold, or did you run out of film and have to rummage around under your car seat to find an old roll? philipus Posted May 19, 2020 Share #69345 Posted May 19, 2020 Thank you so much for your kind words, Wayne. It's interesting that certain places draw us back photographically. I have over the years had a few of them. This beach is one of them actually. Well worth a visit, by the way, for anyone interested in a slightly rugged and beach. As for film, I rarely have a plan for which film I use. This was on the island where I grew up, which I visited last summer. Normally when I travel I pick a selection of rolls and I will usually have some Ektar, some Gold or more rarely Portra, possibly a Velvia or two from my stash of expired rolls, XP2 of course and sometimes some Pan F or Rollei Retro. I used to shoot loads of Fuji but these days I prefer the Kodak colours (and I am a bit annoyed that Fuji is doing its best to ditch us film photographers, so there's that too). When picking a roll I just choose whichever is appropriate based on 1) if I want to shoot colour or monochrome and 2) the light, ISO-wise. On this trip I think I only had XP2, Ektar and Gold and on this particular day I only had the roll I had loaded as it was quick visit to the beach during a rather cloudy and windy afternoon. best Philip 4 hours ago, Wayne said: That is beautiful. Best, Wayne Wonderful. This is exactly the kind of scene that would cause me to raise my camera but I doubt I would be able to avoid blowing out the brightest part. I get cinematic vibes, or perhaps cine-linguistical vibes (if there is such a thing) with the light coming in hard from the side, a bit spookily, drawing us as the protagonist in this drama closer towards the danger that we know hides around the corner. Really exciting. 3 hours ago, mdp said: MP Summarit 35/2.4Delta400 in ID11 Welcome, dear visitor!
