As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! of the camel guy at the pyramids in Giza. This was from a scan I'd done back in 2014. Looking at it again, I thought I could do a lot better with the colors and so forth now, so I spent quarter of an hour tracking down the transparency today, then rescanned and processed it the way I thought it should look. People may or may not agree, but to my eyes this looks fresher, more vibrant and much closer to how I remember the scene. It's also a lot closer to the look of the Kodachrome original. I guess the moral of the story is, even a photograph on film from decades ago can be brought back and freshened up: Giza, Egypt 1987 This is extremely interesting, Phil. I love how you have freshened up the vibrance and the popping colors and contrast really work for me. I am, though, torn to pieces over the colors in the sky and sand. To me, the sky in the first is balanced toward magenta whereas the sky in the second is more in perfect balance. BUUUT, the sand in the first is, to me, in perfect color balance whereas in the second it is balanced toward ever so slightly toward magenta. If you didn't make this direct comparison I probably wouldn't have picked up on any of this. But given that you have gone the length of making it, I thought I would share my reaction. Having said all of this, both showcase the sublime qualities of Kodachrome brilliantly! 19 hours ago, adan said: 1) economy with wide 120 film, and 2) very fine grain. Plus 3) I've been using the stuff for 45 years and am used to it. (Nevertheless, as presented in some of my earlier posts here, I had to re-tune my processing (and exposure techniques) a bit to handle the contrasty(er) Sekor lenses.) Rodinal was also high on my list, but just a tad too grainy for what I wanted. I think I can say I have the tonal range with TMax 400 now nicely controlled, as evidence of which... It's the Fuji Natura grain and total toxicity! You think there was some cross-pollination of the Fuji and ADOX minds? Maybe Seurat slipped into the think tank because it's sliding seriously toward Impressionist pointillism, straight from the can. And whoever painted the building those colors paid for it with tennies.

Having said all of this, both showcase the sublime qualities of Kodachrome brilliantly! Having thought about what you and David have said, Adam, I have revisited this slide once again. You are both right - there was way too much magenta in the second picture. I have reworked it again and think I have addressed the primary concern with it. Now, looking at the kodachrome original and this third attempt, the colors are far more in alignment. I'll have to live with it a while, though, to make sure it stands the test of time. Thank you both, though - it has become an interesting observational lesson to me.
