Sadly, I see the Fuji Superia 200 stock has dried up at my usual sources. However, I now see a Fuji C200 film available. I am not sure if it was there before, but do not think it was. Is C200 essentially the same thing as the Superia? Anyone have any experience with this film? I am tempted to buy a lifetime supply of the Agfa Vista as a hedge.

Unfortunately the c200 is a lower level film, probably older technology, but still capable of nice results albeit with more grain.

I have not been active in the film world for a month or more - can't believe how many pages have been added to this thread in the meantime!  :0

Managed to make a short trip out yesterday afternoon (finally) to finish off a roll of Tri-X in my Hasselblad 500C (80mm Planar + yellow/green filter). Developed this morning and here is an example - Guardian Stones @ Avebury (Neolithic Stone Circle).

Phil,

I like your story, like your picture, together it says it all. And beaches are indeed wonderful places

for photographers - you have quite a few nice ones down there. The attached picture is from my

recent visit. A moment of tranquility, peace and yoga, before the crowds come in.

Henry - The fact that the water is "more black" in the EM5 digitalization and that the Plustek scan has more contrast doesn't mean that the latter scan is better. Generally, it's best to scan without applying scanner settings in order to get a low contrast scan which captures as much information as you can from the scanner. Then, in your photo editing software you adjust to get the gradation that you want — the same way that one uses a low contrast negative and prints with the contrast that one wants. Think also how people complained that the M240 produced a lower out-of-camera file than the M9 — but it was precisely because M240 had a larger dynamic image than the M9 that the M240 image OOC looked lower contrast. Generally, a camera like the EM5 should get more dynamic range than the Plustek, which has a dMax of only 3.6 — and, if I remember correctly, requires multi-sampling and takes 4-5 minutes per frame in order to achieve that dynamic range.

Nothing to do with the above, but I'll take this opportunity to post the two old pictures below: the nude was shot on Tri-X and the Greek statue on Agfa Scala — and both were scanned with the Imacon Precision III (dMax of 4.2 and 6,300 dpi. The pictures are "glued together" because this a layout for a book project of which I want to print a dummy in the 11x18 cm pocket-book format that was used in this Moriyama book, which is (interestingly( reviewed in a 9 minute "flip-through" here.

Thank you Nowhereman for you post

The last two pages are very touching for me, as my wife goes through breast cancer therapy at the moment, too. So far all seems to work as planned and we are optimistic in any aspect. Nonetheless it is way depressing to learn how many people suffer from the different forms of cancer nowadays.

James, please pass on my and my family's best wishes to your wife, along with our hope that good health will return to her very soon.

Just Wayne getting weird with the Zorki.

It was -6.......Fahrenheit........Phil. Laugh as you visualize me quickly scampering back to the truck,  worried that my extended exposure- to capture this photo- is going to cost my fingers......to frostbite. :) The camera, like most any Russian, does not seem to care one whit about the cold.

I like these frozen shots of yours Wayne - makes complaining about the odd hot day here seem futile. I hope the Zorki was able to enjoy a shot of vodka after its ordeal.

Not Vodka, The Famous Grouse......I know, a blend. But I like it. I consider it the Budweiser of whiskies.

What the ancient Soviet/Zorki stuff lacks in providing refinement, it does seem to make up for in presenting the bleakness.

So I had a quick 2-night trip to London and wasn't able to keep up with the thread as I like to view the images on a large screen.   I am now catching up to some really beautiful images.  Kudos to all!

Very nice series from NY, Mike!

I am always hungry :)  This technique for replacing film works like a charm for about 5-8 seconds until I start getting serious saliva dripping from my lips at which point my time is up and I have no fourth hand! :)

for a moment I thought it was a photo of a hungry man, then I looked more closely ;-)

This one os really gorgeous, Wayne.  Painterly through and through....
