This is right. There are a variety of options.

 

1 - DeVere makes an enlarger that has a facility to print from digital files onto silver paper. In place of a film negative they have an electronic device that creates an transparent image. I have never seen one, but DeVere is a good name, so...

 

2. There are a number of labs that will take a digital file and make a silver print. There is Digital Silver Imaging (Boston I believe) and Ilford Lab Direct. I have tried them both, and I was very pleased and impressed. I think there are others.

 

The down sides are that the DeVere is expensive, and the labs take some time (usually about 10-14 days from when I send the file) and some money (but nothing outrageous).

 

The results were excellent. But I can do as well with my focomat 1c and Ilford Multigrade Classic paper. I have used Ilford Lab Direct 2-3 times when I wanted a print larger than I can conveniently make myself. I don't stock big paper, and I only have 2 big trays. And I want big prints only every 2-3 years for something special (e.g. a request for something big from a friend or family member).

 

Michael , one box of Ilford Mutigrade paper in format 12,7x17,8 cms (100 sheets) costs 34 Euros

so one photo is around 3.4 cents.

The second advantage is silver paper impressed by the light of enlarger , not deposit ink on

paper like in digital printer and in addition you need your computer and inkjetprinter , the great

difference... and the pleasure to work in darkroom , not in front of his computer

You can also choose one part of your negative and crop a little like for portrait ....

Another example difference in color

 

Case 3 :

 

M8 160 Isos and M7 Kodak Portra 160 taken same time , same place , same lens

in Ghent 2017

Pictures uncorrected DNG and TIFF > JPEG for post as usual

 

Road sign with the difference in color of the stone wall , the white wall , the yellow line etc...

All is different 

 

 

M8 160 Isos > a little magenta cast

I know that it is useless for those who are determined to use digital but I show it with

evidence that the monolayer sensor is not good for the moment.
Remember this difference when you use digital.

 

a part of this difference provides of the insufficient light * that touches the pixels with

the Bayer filter on the monolayer sensor as mentioned above.

As in my profession, I am just honest with myself and think to find the flaw in the sensor ...

but as the economy of the production of sensors and softwares is important I know it's a sword

stroke in the water ,  but I hope that people will quickly realize this difference that the color of the

sensor  is the best  because it's not true
