Thanks, Gentlemen :)  I love those silly moments :)

Good one, Philip :)

Shame on you Adam :D

Awesome!

Very cool Adam :) I like that this mirror selfie theme is catching on. And that finger pointing is great, makes the eye want to wander around the picture.

Speaking of finger pointing...

Adam,

I understand that the colour development agent used for photographic film differs from the one used for movie film. Therefore I believe that the colour reproduction of any movie stock based film developed in c41 differs significantly from the way it was designed. Your earlier comparison of cinestill and ektar seems to support that view.

Thus your Ektar photos have my clear preference for this leafy subject matter.

Christoph, As usual, I think you are right and have learned my lesson with using Cinestill 50 for Fall scenes.  In fact, one of the two rolls had SCHMOOTZ (see attached completely flat scan with the schmootz enhanced for effect) and I am completely livid and beside myself.  The rolls were just rec'd a few months ago and I immediately put them in my fridge.  I have sent this to Brandon Wright at Cinestill and told him I am finished with their color films.  I had placed an order for 6 rolls of their XX B&W film stock and demanded that they give them to me for free, which Brandon smartly did.

It does look like a selfie to me :)

The second picture is very nice however.

I think a selfie is, strictly speaking, a photo made by holding the camera out at arm's length (or on a stick) and pointing it at yourself (with or without friends).

I think a selfie is a process of shooting yourself and misinterpreting it as a good idea. However you do it , at arms length or from close, with a phone or a hasselblad.

Considering the vast world around us, it has always confused me why people choose to photograph themselves in it. I mean I get the point but truly not really.

Obviously please don't take it as direct critique of Stray Cat photo, it is really not my intention to single him out. I guess it just sparked the conversation.

I personally have never been impressed with any selfie, even from the biggest masters of photography. I never know what these photos communicate. Maybe I need to educate myself on this a bit more.

Hmmmm... seems we have a discussion about what constitutes a selfie. Maybe, for a start, we should defer to the experts:

Merriam-Webster: Definition of selfie
: an image of oneself taken by oneself using a digital camera especially for posting on social networks

Oxford Dictionary: selfie

(also selfy)
nouninformal

A photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and shared via social media.

‘occasional selfies are acceptable, but posting a new picture of yourself every day isn't necessary’

However I want to point out, first and foremost, that I made the comment I made - a self-portrait (please note - not "selfie") - simply because I intensely dislike the term "selfie". Having said that, the self-portrait has an outstanding pedigree in art: Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt van Rijn, Gustave Courbet, Claude Monet, Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cézanne, Edvard Munch and others constitute a not-too-shabby list. Then we specifically have the photographers, people like Man Ray, Vivian Maier, Richard Avedon, Cindy Sherman, Robert Mapplethorpe, Ansel Adams, Nobuyoshi Araki, Helmut Newton, Danny Lyon, Alec Soth, Weegee, Francesca Woodman, Sally Mann, Lee Friedlander, Diane Arbus, Ilse Bing, Erwin Blumenfeld, Imogen Cunningham, Nadar, Berenice Abbott, David Bailey, Josef Koudelka, Philipus, Gary, Wayne, Adam... and on and on it goes.

Whooptydoo. But what does it all mean Basil?

I don't know. Just please don't call my self portrait a selfie! Pretty please?

Wooohhoooo, and I was going to bone you about leaving my name out, but looked and saw it, along with a veritable bunch of others. LOL.

I do believe SP has a point, but in the spirit of getting on, I appreciate his point of view, just as he obviously appreciates ours.

In the end, I blame the Hague fellow, he started this trend, and the Ghent workshop didn't help.

No more from me, not until the next trip anyway.

"Selfie-Stick" though, they're another story, and make it my business to get behind as many of them as I can humanly find usually in the obligatory tourist spots.

If I could get away with throwing them off tall buildings, or into the rivers/canals I would, somehow I think I'd end up worse off though, so have refrained. I DETEST them.

Well, that is why I quit using cinestill. Some rolls are better than others but there are always some blemishes to be expected, that tend to show up on the frames you like the most :) I know some fellows in Thailand who use the original Kodak film stock and remove the extra layer by hand. Surprisingly the photos seem to be cleaner than cinestill but this is not something that I would enjoy doing.

Bouahahaha, another one, self-portrait, selfie, selfy or not. Perhaps it's just a picture of a door.

Still experimenting with Minox and Adox Color Implosion. Found great improvement by drastically increasing scan resolution. Stealth shot. Apology for askew horizon.

Yard work.
