gbealnz Posted November 19, 2017 Share #42702 Posted November 19, 2017 (edited) While in Helsinki we took a wander about and ended up visiting the Uspenskin Katedraali (Uspenskin Cathedral?). A beautiful building. Outside we noticed a young chap sketching the building, and I took a shot. We exchanged addresses, and I contacted him last night and sent him the shot. He sent me a shot of the sketch, nice. R6 24mm Elmarit R Portra 400 Plustek 8100 Gary Welcome, dear visitor! mikemgb Posted November 19, 2017 Share #42705 Posted November 19, 2017 My First ever 4x5 colour film development all done by myself and a little help from my beautiful wife...........Man I love shooting film and I love my wife so much for helping me out with the timing in-between the colour development stages and keeping the chems at ~~39 degrees Neil Congratulations! It came out well! Once you've done a few you'll find C41 to be as easy as black and white.
mikemgb Posted November 19, 2017 Share #42706 Posted November 19, 2017 Congratulations, Neil! You must be highly delighted and kudos to you for taking the plunge into C41 development. I enjoy b&w development but have shied away from colour. +1. I too have processed B&W for years but as Keith has said, I too have shied away from colour development. I did consider it recently, E-6 as well, but in the end decided to stick with what I know (very little). Gary C41 really is no more difficult than black and white, it just involves a higher temperature. It also has the advantage that the mixed chemicals can be used over and over again and will typically last 3-5 months if stored in collapsible plastic bottles. E6 is the same but has the disadvantage the chemicals last for no more than 48 hours so you have to save as many films as your kit will handle then batch them. This can actually be fun because then you find photos you took months ago and had forgotten about.

Wayne Posted November 19, 2017 Share #42720 Posted November 19, 2017 Thanks, Edward (and Phil ) It's a little foreshadowing of upcoming winter Beautiful, Christoph! Gorgeous, Edward. Love the colors. The Portra 400 is a good performer at sunset! Really great color palette, Wayne. That gear and film set-up suits you perfectly! Thanks, Adam. The Summitar, 50mm 2.5 Hektor, 28mm 5.6 Summaron, they are all lenses I purchased despite overall opinion- presented on WWW- of second tier status. I appreciate the encouragement; I intend to stick with them...... with a mindset of "what is given" rather than "what I want." It is strange, how working with these old lenses, cameras......and film, sort of releases from the constrictions of technical standards and expectations; provides a measure of thrill. I appreciate everyone's indulgence. I see posting photos to this thread and being a part of this group as a privilege.
