Ye olde town hall, draped with a blanket of poppies.  A shot from the this week's test roll of my 'new' 21-35mm Vario Elmar (R5 & HP5+) with the lens at 21mm.

More Wayne grain. :)

My Soviet camera threw a tantrum and broke off the first six images upon rewind. Additionally it did some other minor damage to the first negatives. I was diligent, instead of sacrificing the images, I unloaded camera in dark bag. Last salvageable image from roll. I was thinking of Ian when I took the shot. It is Teasle (sp?) and invasive species to North America.

Me too, the colors are really outstanding!

I'm really liking Portra 160's colors...

Very nice, Philip.  I like this kind of photo and it is inspirational for me.  I might prefer the shot directly level with the office floor with the same strong contrast silhouettes.  I may try this in lower manhattan :)

Awesome colors in this one in particular, Keith

Some of you may remember earlier this week I posted some disastrous results from my first attempt at developing XP2 in black and white chemicals, this is one example:

One suggestion was that it was not fixed enough, I'm happy to say that appears to be the case, this is the same frame after re-fixing the film:

Thank you to all who made suggestions on that original post.

Nice recovery!

Thanks a lot Adam. I agree, that would be a stronger shot. Trouble was there was no building on the other side, but only water.

Attachments on this forum are showing up just as black boxes with Safari 11.0.1, but I managed to see them in Firefox. I great improvement, and a learning experience for me - I never dreamed that insufficient fixing would show turbulence marks at the sprocket holes. BTW, there are some really nice tones in your photo!

There is something that occurs to me that might explain why this process has worked so well for me - I have been using Ilford Rapid Fixer, which is diluted 1+4 to make 5 liters. However, my brown plastic Datatainers are 1 US gallon in size, so my fixer ends up more concentrated than usual (about 1+3). Perhaps the darkroom gods have smiled upon this fool and allowed him to make an accidental discovery?

It certainly appears XP2 demands extra fixing.

It also happens in color. Two months ago my lab changed the c41 chemicals supplier and the fixer was not concentrated enough and I got similar effects on my film. Luckily another fixer/bleach bath cured it.

What an amazing difference. How long did you fix the second time?
