Looking for some advice here, does this camera have light leaks or did I just really screw up the developing?

Olympus XA2, Ilford XP2, one roll developed in 300ml of HC-110 E (1:47) for 10 minutes. I did 10 inversions to start, then 4 every minute. Every frame exhibits the same flat tone, grain and sprocket hole shadows.

This is the first time I have developed XP2 in black and white chemicals so I figure the lack of tone and grain are something I did wrong, I'm hoping the sprocket hole shadows are also bad developing but I am going to run a roll of TMax 400 in the next couple of days to see if I get the same marks.

What do you think?

I've never had that problem with XP2 and HC-110. Was the XP2 long out of date? That might account for the flatness and grain, but not the bromide drag from the sprocket holes. Did you drop the loaded reel into the developer, or add the developer to the tank with the reel in it? The former method is prone to such marks.

The XP2 was fresh, I added the developer to the tank. I'm at a loss on this, everything I did should have produced good results. I believe everything including the sprocket hole marks is related to development but I'll run the TMax 400 to check, and I just ordered a light seal kit anyway!

I'm hoping to take this camera to Paris in a couple of weeks loaded with Ektar while the M2 has black and white film, I need to be confident in it first though.

Mike - I would guess light leak or other premature exposure to the light (such as opening the camera before first unwinding it.  but that's very much an uneducated guess.

Wow, gorgeous sky with spot on blues, grays and whites!

Mike, from memory since I haven’t done any film processing at home for a long while, but it could be the fixer. The same thing happened to me a few years ago and most people I asked for help suggested that fixer was too strong.

My argument against that is that I developed 2 sheets of 4x5 HP5 and one roll of TX400 the same evening in the same fixer and they were all perfect, but it could be that XP2 demands less fixing?

Thanks Adam, I didn't open the camera but I can't help but wonder if a light leak is a possibility. I should know if that is the case in a couple of days.
