This is great, Edward. It seems to me that you have made a conscious decision to get closer and more front-on to the subjects of your photographs over time - is that right? Anyway I'm finding your pictures increasingly engaging, as if you are more of a participant in the encounter as opposed to being an observer. Whatever, these pictures from (Thailand?) are fabulous and give a great sense of place. Plus those Portra 800 colours are just wonderful!

Thank you very much Phil! Your comments mean a lot to me. I've have been working on my shyness with a bolder approach to my subjects, not taking no for an answer. I feel that it's starting to work better for me.

Well if I may say, Edward, it's certainly working in your pictures. How do you find working with that newer approach - are you finding your confidence is up? Your pictures seem to indicate it is. If so, is that something that's becoming increasingly easier? I ask because I think all of us (well, I can only really speak for myself) find it difficult - if not all the time, then certainly at times - to approach strangers on the street. My own experience is that it makes me happier to do that, and I feel it's reflected in the quality of the pictures I take when I do so. Not only that, though - the human interaction is something that is an incredible pleasure in itself. I'd be interested to know if that's the kind of thing you've been experiencing.

I think for me it's always ups and downs. Some days I feel very confident, some others I feel panicky. The more I do it, the more confidence I build, then I stop for a while and I'm back to square 1. I do love the interaction with people as you say. Thais in general are very easy going and tolerant with photographers, which helps a lot.

It's exactly the same for all of us, we'll I mean most of us, Adam seems to have balls of steel. I've been away from 'street' for sometime and now it puts the fear of God into me, whereas I was quite relaxed previously. I'm now turning to photographing 'things' rather than people, but I'm not getting the same excitement or drive.
