Doc Henry Posted August 31, 2017 Author Share #39361 Posted August 31, 2017 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Ray, we speak here between "lovers of film"... Yes i prefer this version attached , lines and edges are less accentuated finally scan is a compromise as I said because the best is print and no digitalization step or digital camera Beoon step The best of scanner and the reference is Imacon for MF and 135 (see pictures of ChrisM) and secondly Nikon Coolscan V or 5000 for 135 . When you crop in comparison with Epson flatbed , you see a little difference but I show in previous posts for TMx , the V700 or V750 is in my opinion is one the best flatbed scanner currently for MF and 135. The DMax is around 4 (Nikon) with Epson (3.8-3.9 in memory). It's better you use 24 bits for increasing the rendering with ANR Glass in addition. Ray thanks for your reply Best Henry @ Henry, I have exactly the flatbed setup you recommend, I.e. Epsom V750, Betterscan ANR adapter etc. It's total rubbish with 35mm. Looks good at web size, but that's all. It's fine with MF but in all aspects it's really just a compromise to a dedicated scanner or a high res digitised scan. I wouldn't recommend a flatbed for 35mm. The Beoon which you dislike leaves it way behind and Digitised scans can be manipulated to accentuate sharpness or otherwise. Just as we did years back with soft effect filters or indeed development processes to adjust to taste. What is interesting however is flatbed scanning a print. This produces some lovely tones (don't know how). I've posted this image previously but it's a good example of a flatbed scanned print, which it is. A miller Posted August 31, 2017 Share #39362 Posted August 31, 2017 Love them, Richard, especially the second. So many exotic locations and great photographs, very awesome! Film in all four corners of the globe and from the highest peaks to the bottom of the Dead Sea too, fantastic. A couple of less exotic (to me at least) had-to-be-done vanishing point pictures with the SWC/M and Delta 400. 36081746173_b1e6a2ac1d_z.jpg 36055731044_e658417ba7_z.jpg Thank you!! What a beautiful sunset Adam! Perfection in my eyes: frame, colors, scenery.. thanks for sharing.. Beautiful colors, Phil. Looking forward to the re-release of Ektachrome in 35mm format later this year. Some street art from a few years ago: Richmond, 2012 Canon A1, FDn 35mm f2, Kodak E100VS (I really miss this film!) Beautiful blues in this one, wow. Sunset, Velvia 50, Mamiya 6 @75mm, Epson V600

Guest )-( Posted August 31, 2017 Share #39370 Posted August 31, 2017 Thank you Henry and Adam. These two with Ilford DDX, though I preferred Ilfosol 3, it's a little expensive and has a short shelf life. I use XTOL mostly now for its better longevity and price/ease of shipping.

As you can see there is a purple border on the right side. However, I discovered it's not the scanner fault. My lab have made a mistake with the chemicals, and the fixer was too weak, which leaves some silver on the negative and causes weird color shifts with the scanner, especially when the IR channel is on. Anyway, I have the Coolscan V on the way, so I will have two operational scanners Edited August 31, 2017 by edwardkaraa

Guest JMF Posted August 31, 2017 Share #39378 Posted August 31, 2017 Antonio, I am not a fan for beoon scan ... it's like you shoot in digital Sorry to be frank ! we use "film" and as said Phil above to escape this system and we fall again in ! ... but it's better you make a comparison between beoon and scanner to see and if you can , please post here the result Best regards Henry I will try the Beoon soon, my Coolscan just won't start anymore and I wil make sure to shoot RAW and not add sharpness nor crank up the clarity . I never managed to have good results with my V600 Epson yet will try again with all the MF archives begging me for some air...
