Which version do you prefer, the toned version here:

https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/205842-i-like-filmopen-thread/?p=3329285

or this grayscale version:

attachicon.gifAA006bw.jpeg

In the darkroom I have toned some prints using selenium toner (from Ilford). One can make it very subtle, or more prominent. Of course, the first version is just a digital simulation of the toning, not anywhere near as nice as the real thing!

I would go for the toned version - it gives the warmth of the day in the Aussie bush.

From my project "Living Like This"

Meat shop in Bradford West Yorkshire UK.

Leica MP  with 21mm Elmarit.  Film is Kodak TRI-X in D76 stock.

Last one for today - thank you for all who looked and commented- I do appreciate it!!

I know that my style of photography is not for everyone and even can be seen as depressing and I understand this. To me the Leica camera, that was born in the 1920's when photojournalism was still in it's infancy, blew all the "cobwebs" away and in the hands of the masters of the day made some of the century's most memorable and yes moving images.

I try to emulate this with my Leicas because I want to make a statement through the lens of these beautiful cameras and without being silly I like to think of what  Phillip Jones Griffiths once said - "For every picture that I have ever taken I would have still been there but without any film in the camera"  To me the Leica is a an exquisite tool that transponds mere mechanics and lets you slip between the heartbeats to record the emotion of the scene before it's lens. Maybe OTT and it probably is but that is how I feel when I pick my Leicas up.

Paul - not depressing nor ott - I think what you say about what you are doing with your Leicas is beautifully put.

taken with the Tele-Elmarit 90mm f2.8 "Fat" on the M4:

this with the 50mm Summicron

and it's a guess whether this is the 50mm Summicron or 35mm Summaron f2.8 LtM - probably the 35?

I've just finished printing a bunch of iPad photos for a friend, so I'm not sure when it arrived, but there is an e-mail in my inbox describing the favourite photos from the L-Camera forums. Click on the links in the e-mail - if the results are not filtered then 14 of the 19 shown come from this thread! Congratulations to all who are featured, and especially to Keith, who has two photos in there.

Colors came out wild on this one.

Very 1988 :)

M6 + 50cron and Agfavista200.

I'm enjoying your series. I think the Agfavista has very interesting character.

I think I've posted this here before a long time ago, but I did a mini series of cars in Mexico (with Kodachrome) also with an M6 and Summicrom 50.

Pippa seems happy and breathing good air of the sea :)

She's right ! nothing can replace the air of the sea ... :)

Henry

Chris do you know you lose details (visible in crop) when you convert ?

I say that because I know you are also a "purist" in photography   :)

Is that a matter of perception, rather than an actual technical loss? I can see well why our eyes/brains might be able to discern details distinguished by slight colour separation that could be lost without the colour, but surely in that case those details would not be apparent if the original image was made on a black and white film. I'd like to know a bit more about that as it looks like I'll be able to fit just one body with two lenses into the discretionary space left in the Miata's trunk/boot in October, despite ordering tailor-made luggage to fit said trunk/boot and also the for deck where the roof folds down. If it is to be one body and two lenses, I'm taking Portra 160 and converting those pictures that ought to have been taken in B&W. Not that I ought to worry for the kind of photos I take, where a diminished resolution might serve to hide my errors! I also love the fact that during conversion I can play with the colour sliders and simulate the use of yellow, orange. red and green filters.

Chris

Hoping an R9, Elmarit-R 28 and Summicron-R 90 will serve.

I must search in a previous post , the comparison between the same picture taken at the same time , one with my M7 and Kodak Portra 160 and one with my MP and Kodak TX , same lens. The crop of the color converted in b&w lack a lot of details in comparison the same taken in b&w

I will post again this post if I find this comparison post and if you want

Chris I have also made the comparison with digital M9 converted and film .... same lack of details

Thank you, Henry. I see what you mean, but I suspect it could be corrected in (if I'm allowed to mention it!) post-processing. I'm thinking this - imagine two small adjacent areas of a colour negative, with different colours, but the same or similar luminance. Take away the colours and they look very much the same, depending on how the original colours are converted to greyscale. Altering that conversion with colour sliders during conversion ought to be able to allow them to still be seen as distinct. Hopefully, the fall colours will be so spectacular that there will be little need for conversion to B&W, but I'll find out when the time comes and perhaps learn something.

You are welcome Chris , it's with great pleasure :)

That's why Leica has a M Monochrome with the M9

and Huawei-Leica smartphone color and monochrome.

Intelligent and logical Leica . I believe you have also

Fuji or Nikon ?
