deleted - will be back - well, I tried to delete it because of the awful copyright notice in the lower left - but i have not been able to figure out how to do that - sorry about that.  Here is the text I had with it - that got deleted ok!

 

I took the time to examine the first few pages of this thread.  In one of his very early posts Henry said some thing that resonated with me, "the drift and deformation of the perception of the image has changed with the coming of digital".  It's pointless trying to explain that.  To some of us it is simply true.  

This was taken at Greenmount beach on the Gold Coast, Qld, Australia with the M4 and 35mm Summaron 2.8 LTM.  I have shot many beach scenes with the Nikon D200, D600 & D810.  For reasons peculiar to my eye and brain I keep coming back to this because it satisfies me.

And here is another, without the copyright notice :rolleyes:  Taken with the M4 and Summitar at Hawes in Wensleydale while on the Pennine Way.  The chap was taking the bird to the Vet to have its wing treated for a suspected fracture.  He kindly agreed to the photo, and I remember opening up to 5.6 in the shade.  Amazing how things stick in your mind when you have to think about what you are doing!

These are really nice, Christoph (although the lack of an orange/red tinge in the second reminds me more of a fuji film or even cinestill 50).  If I squint hard enough enough I think I see a "svn" in your caption.   What does this mean?

f/5.6 looks like it was just the ticket Dan.

 

Super colours, especially in the second Gum tree landscape Chris.

 

A couple with SWC/M and Tri-X from Sydney University.

I've had to ration myself going there - easy parking, close to my colour film lab, great cafes and area but I've filled my boots there and then some.

Thanks. I never pretend that the colour rendition I manage from scanning the negatives are true to the original. With me it seems more like "hit and miss"; perhaps more miss... This could explain the lack of orange, but on the other hand it does look a bit like that down there in Tasmania. As to your squinting, I think in the English speaking forum I should use n(negative) s(scan) or some such thing. Anyway, makes more sense with B&W to indicate that the picture is scanned from the negative and not from a print.

Henry, if I may add a comment here - I also generally rate colour negative films at half the box speed. This may be a carryover from my college days when we did a lot of testing with them, and I still have the results. The overexposed colour negs were way more vibrant than those rated even at box speed, but especially than those with even the slightest underexposure.

 

I'd also like to comment that Massimo's scene is a salient reminder of the grace and beauty photography can bring to the everyday. In years to come, such a picture will come to mean much more than it even does now.

Exactly Dan. It's similar when people begin to listen CD in music (hard and agressive for me ,

not for them) or MP3 on iPhone

The deformation continue for all new system , people cannot  distinguish the quality of something.

As you saw in comparison pictures I posted above , color of sensor is still very far from color of film.

We can find distortion (or deformation if you like this term) in color aggravated by correction in photo

software. I said "apprentice sorcerer" for this photo correction.

Ciao Henry, I rated at 100 to have more saturated colors, and to use the lens at larger aperture during the day.

What are you referring to when you say "artificial" lights? The only lights here are the ones of the bookstore, I guess I don't understand the relation with the photo. Do you see any yellow tendency?
