More 6x9 slides from Coney Island, only this time I have a Velvia 50 vs Provia 100F comparison.  You be the judge...

First, the Provia 100F

Not really enough difference to me to be set on one or the other, they are both nice.

In the very early days, I used Velvia for stock, but transitioned to Provia (and Agfachrome plus Ektachrome) towards the end. Possibly for the speed difference.

Nowadays I can be happy with mostly any slide film from Fuji, they are all good.

Right on, Gary.  If I had to live with only one slide film stock it would be the Provia 100F as it is the most versatile.  And this example proves that it can be made to not be so far off from Velvia 50.

Ventured out to Coney Island in Brooklyn last week to shoot another one of my favorite subjects with my favorite gear/film combo: street art with my Linhof Technika Press 6x9, 53mm Zeiss Biogon and Velvia 50

With the help of the ground glass, I was able to get the murals to fit within nearly every bit of the 9cm film plane.

These babies can be printed massive (8-10 feet) on Fuji Flex high gloss - wub wub :)

Wow, that fist is reaching out like in 3D !

Nice one Adam, have you shot it with the SWC too? Viva Velvia !

Thanks, Jean Marc :)

I left my SWC at home as the square format doesn't work well with the pano size of the murals.  It would ultimate utilize too small of a surface area on the film.  With the 6x9, I get nearly 9 full centimeters of film coverage - love love love

Another from Wed's roll of Ektar, Hassy 500C, 160mm Zeiss Tessar.

The medieval Town Hall on the High Street. Both ends bedecked with huge Union Jacks.   Hmm, is the Town Council sending out a message...

Have you considered an A-16 back?

I had one prior to getting my SWC, and while shooting anything other than square with an SWC seems a sacrilege, it also gives you a bit more economy, if that is important.

Obviously the V/F is not correct, but I just guess the top and bottom.

What will an A-16 back give me? The way I figure it, 6x9 gives me 50% more film surface area.  So even if the mural is square it still doesn't seem to give me anything to use the SWC , at least in cases in which I am able to schlep the Linhof around.  The SWC is easier to level and with the Ground glass also able to be precisely framed.  But the 53mm biogon is the creeky grandfather of the 38mm biogon and the 6x9 film size makes it like an SWC on steroids.  That's more German glass, and there's nothing like a good piece of German gl..ass!!

For around thirty years, the French ruled Île Royale (Cape Breton) from Fortress Louisbourg.

All it will give is less waste top and bottom, similar aspect ratio to 6x9, but with as you point out, less actual film area.

Thanks, Gary.

I will happily use my SWC to shoot street art when I travel, as I plan to do for a month in Israel later this summer.

But for home roaming purposes, the Linhof is really a killer...
