Doc Henry Posted June 21, 2017 Author Share #34903 Posted June 21, 2017 A few grittier contrail compositions. I didn't plan for the sky to look like this but messed up exposure so I had to edit them in post. Actually, I often struggle with scanning photos with a lot of sky shot on C41 or b&w. Especially those on C41 tend to be much more grainy than I like. philipus Posted June 21, 2017 Share #34904 Posted June 21, 2017 Well you certainly haven't made it easy for us this time, Adam It's amazing how much the light changes a scene. This is pretty obvious of course but I hadn't fully appreciated the extent of this change in the context of a sunset. It's difficult to pick one as the 'best' photo but nos 1 and 4 appeal to me the most. The first one because the light is very pleasant and because the image seems to retain a great deal of detail in the buildings. It is a great sunset photo, better than nos 3 and 4 which Ektar seems to have depicted slightly too saturated for my liking. The fourth I like, and perhaps more than no. 1, because it is so unexpected. I would never have thought that the scene would look like that just minutes after no. 3, in particular that the sky would turn so grey. There's a very cool contrast between the greys and reds, like something taken from Sin City, the movie. All this said, though, I think they work best as a series. That strengthens the contrast between them and makes each stand out the most clearly. It also shows what a spectacle a sunset really is. I've always liked the German word for sunset, Sonnenuntergang, the latter part of which (like in Swedish) can mean 'sinking' but also 'going under', 'downfall', 'destruction', 'demise' and 'doom'. All rather powerful words but then again seeing a star disappear, even if only for a night, is pretty massive. br Philip Greetings from balmy Canary Wharf, looking forward to a quick one night stand here. Here is The last of the June 8 NYC sunset series (5/5)Another 6 min exposure, with the Ektar holding up pretty well, as well as the resolving power of the zeiss biogon lens on the swc

Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted June 21, 2017 Share #34909 Posted June 21, 2017 (edited) Okay So first of all the light leaks look like they are self inflicted ................when I put a film holder in the back of the camera and close the locking leaver it will leave about a 16th of an inch gap, with just a small press on the back of the camera it snaps into place with and obvious CLICK............I guess I have been over protective of the camera and didn't want to force anything..........so there you have it, it looks like Williams F@clked up again. Next I took a couple of pictures today of a flower arrangement that I prepared myself this morning. There is one shot wide open, there is one shot at F45 and another shot with the Leica S.................my question is which one looks the best, and why A/. Welcome, dear visitor! Beautiful tones! Thanks Edward! Very nice but looks like its been over sharpened in PP Thanks! Oversharpening is not all that likely since I don't do any sharpening in post, my guess is that the look is a result of Flickr attempting to downsize a 36mp file...

edwardkaraa Posted June 21, 2017 Share #34917 Posted June 21, 2017 Thank you very much Wayne, Frank! As far as I know, Natura 1600 is made only for the Japanese market. I ordered mine from Japan on eBay. I'm not sure how different it is from Superia but I have the impression it has lower contrast and saturation, and probably finer grain. philipus Posted June 21, 2017 Share #34919 Posted June 21, 2017 More grit From the same roll as the previous ones. The second one is a botched exposure so I played with it in post to see what could be done. Flickr Flickr

He did not say anything about the film being discontinued.
