I do really like this. I think it is because it requires a very long look: the more effort I put into it, the more rewarding the experience. I appreciate that in an image, photograph or painting. It sort of allows you to make it your own, rather than just something presented by another.

Best,

I need the collective wisdom here to help me with this one. I remember the circumstances of taking it, wandering about at dusk on the breakwater with a telephoto lens and shooting back towards the road leading into town, but when I saw the picture I could not for the life of me remember seeing that broad curved band of - whatever it is - across the center of the picture. I thought at first it must have been a light leak, or some processing error. Then I thought a weird cloud. I can't remember seeing one, but I do remember there being a huge storm the next day. My brother who is a PhD in meteorology couldn't work it out, either. I wish I could remember, but I can't. Any ideas?

Phil,

I have no clue what that broad curved band is. However, I quite liked the look of your picture and though it appears by now to have disappeared from the thread, I seem to recall that the strange apparition had a rather orange yellow tint. According to the colour psychology set out by Goethe, the colour "orange" stands for noble and the colour "yellow" for good", which then seems to match with my subjective judgement of your picture  ;).

The sunrise saga continues....LOL

I'm drawn, inter alia, to the way in which the foreground feels like a launching point to dive into the bright shiny cloud-like water. :)

Thank you sincerely, Christoph - what a lovely observation and thought to make!

I have no idea why the picture disappeared - here's a little one to replace it:

Sorry for no photos for a couple of weeks, but I've been cleaning out my office building so it can be sold. However, one good thing came out of its basement; in 1991 I bought a Miata and ran it each summer, and stored it in the heated office basement for the winters. When I lost my partner in 2001, I was too busy to have a chance to go near it and it gathered cobwebs. Now it's emerged, had a lot of new parts installed, and runs perfectly. 26 years old and only 31,000km!

And the other reason to be cheerful today is that my OM-2n's returned from their CLA!

Canon F1 (old type), FD 28mm 2.8, Fuji Superia 200.

Thanks heavens the drop in value for old film gear occurred so fast with advent of digital; otherwise, I would probably not have this, my first, film SLR. It has been collecting dust for about 15 years now. Off it goes, to Mr. Ken Oikawa- I understand he is a trained Canon tech- for rejuvenation.

Great to see a treasure being used again - and restored to its former glory. Lovely rose picture, beautiful colour design.

This would have been my contribution to the Melbourne Night Challenge if only I had had more time to develop ...
