It looks like lens flare to me. I've seen similar flare from telephoto lenses. Just a guess.

In any case, it's very esthetic no matter what caused it. A happy accident :)

Thanks Edward - a happy accident, yes. I like it. Maybe you're right - lens flare - I hadn't considered that!

Phil

No idea what happened there but I like it....I like it a lot :)

Thanks a lot, Neil. Yeah, I must admit that I'm quite partial to it, too - but it frustrates the hell out of me because I just don't know what it is. It could well be lens flare though like Edward suggests...

Anyway, good luck with that film usage tomorrow - can't wait to see what you come up with. I absolutely admire the way you've launched into the 8X10!

As hard as it may be to believe, I was absorbed in the contrast between tiles, wood work, and chrome for some time before I even noticed the painting/reflection on the door. Brilliant photograph.

Were you shooting at box speed?

May be Edward is right ... reflection on lens of the tele ?

Phil, superposition of two photos ?

Anyway I find this photo pretty and especially beautiful color

Best

Henry

Thanks Henry. I don't think it's superimposition of two photos - it all looks too "neat" but you could be right - it's as good an explanation as any! There does, as Edward suggests, seem to be some veiling flare above the curved thing going into the hills... not sure the curved thing is flare though because it's kind of distorted as well, not even like a lens's shape might make. It's had me stumped for 5 years!

The 800 Portra  film expired in 2013 from the box label, nearly 4 years behind plus went a couple of times through customs Xrays so I rated it at 400 ISO.

So you also like green , after the green of Fuji and the red of Philip :)

Here some anothre green and his variation  :)

Green of Etretat Cliff

attachicon.gifImage1etretatk400feclfht+++950+++.jpg

Enjoy the green :)

Regards

Henry

Another demonstration  :)

always less green  in digital when you compare like in the previous boat picture in the Channel

posted above

I remind you the file of one picture from the Nikon Scanner 5000 is 117 Mo in Tiff

and the file in DNG from M9 is 54 Mo !

This is what it must be demonstrated  :)

At the first glance both pictures are beautiful  but which is close to reality  ?

not the same green once again when you compare ! (picture uncorrected)

M9-50 Lux Asph

Both pictures (boat and cliff) are taken at the same time and same place  !

In film , color is deeper , more consistency , more relief  !

>  advantage Kodak Portra 400

Viðareiði on the island of Viðoy is the northernmost settlement on the Faroe Islands. My May 2017 Wild Light Faroe Islands Workshop group and I were leaving to make our way back to our hotel in Torshavn after a couple of hours' photography here when I just had to stop for a record photograph of the village, overlooked by Villingdalsfjall.

I climbed this mountain during my previous visit in April 2016 and the views back across to where I stood now with the awesome cone of Mallinsfjall behind me were wonderful.

The silver in the little church at Viðareiði was a gift from the British Government in gratitude for the rescue of the survivors of the brig Marwood, wrecked here during a storm in the winter of 1847.

I need the collective wisdom here to help me with this one. I remember the circumstances of taking it, wandering about at dusk on the breakwater with a telephoto lens and shooting back towards the road leading into town, but when I saw the picture I could not for the life of me remember seeing that broad curved band of - whatever it is - across the center of the picture. I thought at first it must have been a light leak, or some processing error. Then I thought a weird cloud. I can't remember seeing one, but I do remember there being a huge storm the next day. My brother who is a PhD in meteorology couldn't work it out, either. I wish I could remember, but I can't. Any ideas?

Fascinating. I have seen instances, in correct environmental conditions, in very rural areas in Southern Missouri (Ozarks) where chimney smoke from a community of homes settles over the entire community in much the same manner as a layer of mist seems to be hovering in your photo. As far as an explanation for this photo...............Luck?

Great additions to your collection, Henry.  Have you considered portra 800 on this scene?  I'm thinking it could warm things up (not that warm is better, only different) and give you more speed to capture action a little more crisply (again, not that it is better (slow gets you painterly, I get that).  Just a thought.
