gsgary Posted May 12, 2017 Share #32450 Posted May 12, 2017 I'll try the 18 minutes, but I was hoping for a shorter developing time. What I do notice in using Rodinal rather than HC-110 is that the grain is more pronounced, and I expect that would be even more obvious if I went to 1+25. I may just have to keep some HC-110 around for XP2, even if I convert to Rodinal for other things. I see my Canadian supplier (argentix.ca) has the Legacy Pro version of HC-110, and it's about the same cost as Rodinal, which is around 1/3 the price of Kodak HC-110 or Ilford Ilfotec-HC. Time to stock up!I'll post some of my xp2 + Rodinal when I'm home now grain in xp2 Sent from my SM-G903F using Tapatalk
Doc Henry Posted May 12, 2017 Author Share #32451 Posted May 12, 2017 The urge to experiment is upon me again. Running low on HC-110, but with several bottles of Rodinal equivalent in the fridge, I decided it was time to figure out XP2 in Rodinal. I know I can get great results if I expose at ISO200 and develop in 1+100 Rodinal for one hour, but what about something quicker? Looking around I found a blog with examples of ISO200 in Rodinal 1+50 for 9 minutes (here) so I figured by halving the exposure for ISO400 I ought to increase the development by one third, ie 12 minutes. Well, I got a set of rather low contrast negatives, very suitable for scanning, but not so easy for wet prints. It needs more time, but that gets boring. I might try 1+25 for nine minutes next. Curiously, the film lost its characteristic purple base after being developed this way, which would make wet printing simpler. A miller Posted May 12, 2017 Share #32453 Posted May 12, 2017 Thanks for your feedback, Philip. I will look into a large print. Awsome J-M. I recently watched Kong Skull Island which looked a bit like this. Dramatic. This is great Chris, almost an overwhelming amount of detail which requires the eye to scan around to grasp it all. Virtually all C41 I post (except Ektar in 120) in this thread is shot at two stops overexposure without any problems at all. For iOS there's LB Loupe which doesn't scan but allows viewing the images on b&w and C41 negs fairly easily. Awesome photo, really very nice. Phil, do you really need that door? I always find it annoying because it just vibrates and causes unnecessary noise. Unless it is required for the scanner to work, I'd just put a piece of pack or duct tape over it when the scanner is working. This is very nice, excellent framing, interesting shadows and it also shows what an entirely different film Tri-X is in 120 compared with in 135. Well done. This is very cool Adam, well done lining up the verticals like this and creating a really graphic cityscape image. Would look amazing blown up 1x1 meters (or bigger) Thanks for the close look, Henry. I really appreciate it. Nice Adam a little clear for me on my Eizo Screen Thanks Henry Adam this picture looks better for me Thanks for posting Henry

Back then boats were not as heavy, and men stronger. Technology has made us all weaker, and I doubt you'd be able to do this today. Gary

stray cat Posted May 13, 2017 Share #32460 Posted May 13, 2017 Phil, do you really need that door? I always find it annoying because it just vibrates and causes unnecessary noise. Unless it is required for the scanner to work, I'd just put a piece of pack or duct tape over it when the scanner is working. Excellent point, Philip. It might be that I'll have to do without the stupid door anyway. But I've now a couple of leads to follow up thanks to John and Henry, and if all else fails I think it will be a duct-tape door from here on in. Thank you for your suggestion.
