Just to submit you these pictures I took for comparison

Kodak TMAX400-Leica MP-35 Summicron Asph

and Kodak TX400-Leica R4S-Summicron 50

developed in same developer pure Prof D76 at 22°C

Pictures uncorrected :) just Grey level calibrated by Coolscan 5000 scanner

in Tiff > Jpeg for post

It's not the same lens I recognize and also not the same camera

but at the same time , and just I wish to have your advice about the rendering of Kodak TMAX and TX

column, wall, ceiling, floor , wall drawing ...not the same definition and contrast

Blois Castle

April 2017

Kodak TX400

attachicon.gifImage20bloiskodtx40r4slfht+++-950.jpg

Kodak TMAX400

a crop of picture below and post under the TX400 to have the same size

and for your easier comparison

attachicon.gifImage18bloiskodtmax40mplf+++crop950.jpg

attachicon.gifImage18bloiskodtmax40mplfhtfes+++950-20.jpg

a bit sharper for TMAX and rendering not the same between both Kodak 400 ?

Question ?

Thanks for your advice :) Which you prefer ?

May be I'll do more pictures to compare , but I know some of you are experts

in these films and you probably already make a comparison  :)

Best

Henry

Thank you for posting the comparison, Henry!

I feel that Tmax has a richer tonality, while TX looks more "primitive", less refined. No wonder it has been the film of choice for reportage and documentary photography for decades. It does suit the purpose very well.

For that shot in particular, I prefer Tmax, but if it was a gritty portrait of some old man in a forgotten tribe in the amazon jungle, I'm sure I would prefer TX :D

Eoin your constant research of tree and nature has a good result

and in addition , with the nice b&w tone

Is it cropped ?

Thanks for sharing

Henry

Thanks, Henry. Just seeing how the ZE lenses go on my EOS-1V HS. The viewfinder does a mighty fine job.

No crop, other than trimming the scanned borders off.

I have a slight preference for the Tri-X. A bit more texture.

I don't think I have posted any of these before (the thread goes so quickly it is difficult to go back and check). All Portra 400 and 28 Summaron-M.

Those redtones are always tricky with digital. The sun was quite low and lightended this part almost without refelctions for this view.
