STK Posted April 9, 2017 Share #30270 Posted April 9, 2017 Thanks for the education, Eoin. As for me, we are off to Miami Beach tomorrow for 10 days and I have packed the following: 503cw + 80mm planar SWC M3 + 50mm DR cron Oly XA-4 for hopefully some close ups on the beach Nikon Action Touch for the pool and beach (including underwater) Travel carbon fiber tripod All my LEE filters 135 Format Film Stocks: Portra 160 Portra 800 Ektar 120 Format Film Stocks: Portra 160 Velvia 50 Provia 100F Cinestill 800T Surprisingly, this all doesn't take too much space. It is very interesting to see the list of films and cameras which will be taken to holidays.
Doc Henry Posted April 9, 2017 Author Share #30271 Posted April 9, 2017 Nice article from B&H on the renaissance of film: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/explora/photography/features/great-film-renaissance-2017 Thanks for this article in B&H ! I don't understand why a lot of people still find digital images better and still use mainly digit cam. I don't know why ? may be my (and your) perception with the eyes of color and also b&w is not the same. May be me (and some of you) here , purists gentlemen , are not "normal" ? I just developed yesterday some pictures taken at the organic farm I posted for you above in b&w and also in color (I will post here). It's without appeal.Pictures coming from film (Kodak Portra 160 and TMAX) are nicer and better (and the farmer agree with me) than digital (M9 and M8 taken just for comparison) So my conclusion is still the same I love film Best Henry
Doc Henry Posted April 9, 2017 Author Share #30272 Posted April 9, 2017 We need to see commitment, Adam. Say after me, "I shall use my Hassies...I shall use my Hassies..." Eoin Adam is right for the choice . MF gives a plus and highlights better the quality of film ... with the advantage that's film has a fidelity , richness and sumptuousness for color not possible in another support for the moment ! It's a good choice and I congrat Adam for the choice of a purity ! Have a nice trip Adam Best Henry

The comment was in relation to having hauled the SWC all the way to Hong Kong, and then not used it. I'm hoping that both it and the 503 get to feel the Miami sunshine
Doc Henry Posted April 9, 2017 Author Share #30275 Posted April 9, 2017 (edited) I hadn't noticed the vertical vignetting, but Adam has commented on your find, and after looking, indeed it is there, just. The Europe short-list is somewhat less than what the average photographer takes to Miami, but at "this" stage includes the MP, 21/4 (maybe), the 35/1.4, the 50/2, might take the 50/1.4 as well, might. SWC is a given, with A-12 and A-16, if I haven't found another A-12. Film I have selected a swag of Delta 100 for mono, and Ektar 100 for colour. Keeps the transposing of light readings simpler if I keep all the same, old brain has to work less that way. To cover a few unexpected issues, I have a bit of Delta 400, and some Portra 400 too. Digital accompaniment will be the ubiquitous X-Vario. Gary Gary , you'll need IMO more 35 than 21. You don't have a 28 lens ? For film you can buy also in Europa (Belgium?) , Kodak Portra 160 , I find it's a good film too In your place , I'll take less Ektar and I prefer much Portra 160 and 400 if you like Kodak color ! You're not like Adam who takes Velvia and Provia slides ? M6 and MP are a good choice because they are light ! X Vario as back up will be fine ! chris_livsey Posted April 9, 2017 Share #30279 Posted April 9, 2017 (edited) Back from the short trip with EXPOSED rolls of C41 on 120 with some B/W not my usual ratio of shooting but it was fun. Well we will see when the results are in, meanwhile a celebration of B/W which works when something goes wrong, sometimes. I was shooting my F3P and was on "A" but must have set the iso incorrectly or dialled in some override because the early frames are very underexposed, later was fine when I went back the manual settings. The results did favour some frames, I called this one "America" homage to Jack Kerouac "On the Road". In the murk is Kentmere 400 with Pyrocat HD trying to find something to develop and the scanner performing miracles. gsgary Posted April 9, 2017 Share #30280 Posted April 9, 2017 Have you got your family signed on as assistants to haul all that gear, Adam. Did you scare them into it by hinting at shooting LF? They are not going they are not on the list [emoji1] Sent from my SM-G903F using Tapatalk
