Gary do like me , I have 4 analog Leica now and I have a choice

b&w in one , color in another -no conversion color in b&w as purist ...

it's still cheaper than an M10 no ? :)  with this money saved , you can buy more film  :D

...  and travel

.... that said M is still a discrete camera and good for SP and SLR for nature flowers :)

Best

H

Right now colour film processing is less than ideal locally, it can be done, but the quality I have had of late leaves me a bit cold, plus it's a trip in to drop it off, then a day or so later a trip in to pick up the negs.

And before you say it, I have no interest in processing them myself, even though I have been processing my own since the 60's. For colour while traveling I tend to rely on the old X-Vario. Having said that I did buy in a heap of Ektar 100 (along with a quantity of Delta 100) for the upcoming trip to Europe.

Your last sentence is the most profound though, MP for everyday use, and SL for close up nature etc.

Saving on the M10 isn't a consideration for me, never in my sights in the first place, too expensive, and the loss of too much money over a short period of time.

Travel though you know I have a weakness for, although with the latest round of rubbish with electronics in aircraft, even my traveling days seem numbered. No way will I fly if I can't take my cameras with me. In the hold has too much risk, the chances of the camera going missing too great. Hopefully this will be sorted, but I doubt it.

Thanks, Phil.  Much appreciated.  :)

This is really special, Adam. What a wonderful expression (and eyes!) you've caught. Very difficult to take interesting pictures of people taking "selfies", but this one nails it. Superb.

Ahh, the colors on this one.  Great

As usual, great eye and use of B&W.

Henry: You take often the Macro Elmar 90 for your wonderful flower pictures. I have the same with a MP. What kind of finder you take or suggest for me?

Stefan, yes one of the best 90 of Leica, light , good definition and practical

I always bring with me during travel. For nature flowers in macro, I have in

addition a macro adapter (MA) . If not , I use as a tele 90 without MA .

I suggest you 0.72 or 0.85 . I have 0.72 on both of my M7 and MP.

It's a standard. I also bought a magnifier 1.25 , but I don't use it ...except

sometimes

Look at this picture below

The 90 frame is almost similar for 0.72 and 0.85 just a little bigger

I take my hat off to you Henry, using the M in such close up mode, even with the advantage of the dedicated/specialist lens.

I'll try not to do a "blizzard" on you, but my last roll through the Leicaflex features plenty of close up flower shots.

Macro Elmar focus at less 0.50m , maybe 0.3m :)

0.5m is the closest focus, Henry, giving a reproduction ratio of 1:3. 0.5m-0.76m is the range with the goggles on and 0.76m-∞ without goggles. Even without the goggles, the Macro Elmar-M provides the maximum reproduction ratio any M lens so is a useful lens on its own terms. Personally, I find the goggles a mixed blessing. They are undoubtedly a real boon to the M system, especially to us film users who cannot use live view, but the restricted focussing range (especially the need to switch between goggles-on and goggles-off to focus further or nearer than 0.76m) can feel limiting at times. I borrowed a Nikon 105/2.8G VR lens last year (used it for a job photographing flowers with my DSLR) and it is a fantastic lens with a number of advantages over the Macro Elmar – uninterrupted focussing range from 0.3m-∞, 1:1 repro and VR. I will buy this modestly priced lens (certainly by Leica standards) for those times when I set out to do close-range photography (esp. butterflies) – my only debate is whether to also buy an F5 or F6 to go with it. :D  That said, the Macro Elmar-M wins out easily on size and weight and is perfect for more casual use – keeping it in the bag for those times when a close-focus opportunity presents itself.

Has that Summaron been off your camera at all Ian, it certainly is doing the business?

Lovely landscapes plus that stunning shot recently of your daughter, a great all rounder.
