I'm not sure what causes the scan to render this way. Sometimes in "troubleshooting" scans, I find that it helps to go back to basics. This unofficial Vuescan manual has helped me in the past to get a baseline scan (the pdf is no longer available on the original page but can be reached through the Internet Archive). Perhaps run through the steps of that guide and post the result? Just an idea.

It is odd as the tif and jpeg from scanning are fine. I thought it may be improved in ACR, so I found a perfect white balance spot and exported a jpeg and realised it rendered the UV haze in an odd way.

The scan from Vuescan is good. There is a huge amount of detail that would lend itself to HDR especially in the tree bark. It would cause shockwaves in this thread though, lol.

I used the white balance technique on the promenading young couple at Aberavon beach. I think it worked well on that.

I've been without my computer for a month - the power supply bit the dust, and haven't been able to figure out how to upload photos from my iPad. So tonight, having got my computer back today, I've started scanning a bit of a backlog of pictures.

This one is from the M2 and non-goggled Summaron that I bought from fellow member of this forum Pico. I'd like to add what a pleasure the whole transaction was with Jac, and what a fine and brilliant camera and lens I was fortunate enough to end up with. Using it is a surprisingly different proposition to using my M6TTLs. Not sure I could offer any meaningful suggestions as to just how it is different, apart from having no meter, but it is kind of like having double the pleasure with slightly different Leicas. And I've been using some expired HP5+ that I acquired from a friend.

Anyway, to the photos:

M2, Summaron 35mm, HP5+

...and this one is the "scrap heap" which I'm sure we're all trying to avoid:

And now for something completely different - a colour one. I was experimenting (playing around) with some of my SLR gear:

Canon F1N, FD 300mm f4 + 2X adapter, Portra 400

Phil , it's like a painting

Superb color and composition

Thanks for posting

Great results all around, Phil. I like the scrap heap one in particular. How did did you develop this roll?

The 300+2x seem to go really close, very interesting (as if I need to extend my FD system with more stuff...). I like very much how the photo turned out, painterly somehow.

Thanks a lot Philip, I really appreciate it.

Actually, now that you mention it, I think I also had a 25mm extension tube as well as the 2X extender. i was playing with a whole bunch of stuff, but I think you're right - that's the only way I would have been able to get so close. The FD system is fun isn't it?

I developed the HP5+ in my usual developer, which is XTOL 1:1. I usually just follow the guidelines in the Massive Developer Chart if I haven't ever or in a while used a particular film/developer combination.

3 experimental shots with the Nikon 35Ti pointing straight at the setting sun glistening off the wet road coming from Gnoll Park overlooking Neath.

No corrections just jpeg from scans. Kodak Portra 400.

Fired the flash and lit up car number plate and lighted shadows a bit more maybe.

It's interesting to see how much sharpness I am losing loading up to the thread. Really noticeable today. Here is a screenshot from my phone of the car reg in post 29768

Christ you work with your smartphone and send with it or your computer at home ?

When you post your pictures here , you said you scan the print , am I wrong ?

In my case I scan directly the negative with my Nikon Scan and with Nikon software

no Vuescan
