mrckdavies Posted February 13, 2017 Share #28241 Posted February 13, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Nice ones, Philip. Particularly the first. Very original style of shooting swans with flash. I'll have to try that! (once I find some spare swans ) Adam Please make sure your swans are friendly first, some can be quite feisty. Mine were child friendly and very used to being hand fed. It's quite a special experience and it's not a good idea to show any fear or you become a victim. But I must remember you're used to that! All in a days shooting- eh [emoji6] Kind regards Christopher Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Guest )-( Posted February 13, 2017 Share #28242 Posted February 13, 2017 Awesome, smiling through it all sounds like a winner, good for you. stray cat Posted February 13, 2017 Share #28243 Posted February 13, 2017 Another from last week's NYC snow blizzard M7, 28mm elmarit pre-asph, Portra 400 If I may, this shot by Adam, and the earlier shot with the man, illustrate perfectly to me something it took me years to understand properly - that the background is every bit as important as the foreground. This is especially true in colour, where a distracting COLOUR (never mind form) can totally upset the whole impact of what you are trying to say with the picture. In these two shots of Adam's, the background works perfectly with the main subject to enhance the picture - the red in the case of the picture of the man suggests a sort of tension, even danger, and the blue here in this wonderful picture (especially juxtaposed with her healthy skin, fingernails and red lips) emphasizes totally that feeling of intense chill. Marvellous pictures, both - bravo. A wonderful series in the making whose genesis we are being privileged to watch.
A miller Posted February 13, 2017 Share #28244 Posted February 13, 2017 (edited) Ha, ha, very funny, Christopher. Thanks for the tips AdamPlease make sure your swans are friendly first, some can be quite feisty. Mine were child friendly and very used to being hand fed. All in a days shooting- eh [emoji6]Kind regardsChristopherSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Yes, Coogee - funny you mentioned these other expressions as it is indeed really a progression that first starts (only if needed) as a smiling "newspaper! ) comment, and then only if that doesn't work (as in the single case of the stand off I had with an ego maniac) did I switch to "hey, I need to make a living...") and when that didn't work (and in this one case it didn't) I had to resort to the "No I can't erase your photo and in any case I can do whatever the F**K I want to and if you don't like it you can waste you time and report me to the police over there!!". 99% of the time simple charm works just fine. Awesome, smiling through it all sounds like a winner, good for you. I like the "newspaper" shout, good idea - definitely better than "private detective!" or"it's my constitutional right!" Thanks a lot, Phil. There is more fun to come that I'd love folks to see so please stay tuned. mrckdavies Posted February 14, 2017 Share #28245 Posted February 14, 2017 Some more swans on Fendrod lake, in colour this time. R9, Fuji Superia X-Tra 400, 28-70, with Metz 54 MZ-3. Experimental shots just to see how they'd look and feel. And this one with no flash Shots from my walk around the lake tomorrow. Good night from me. Wayne Posted February 14, 2017 Share #28246 Posted February 14, 2017 I spent late Saturday afternoon talking to some swans at Fendrod lake in Swansea. It was an interesting conversation about this Leica R9 and 28-70 zoom and me using flash to photograph them. We weren't interested in the Honda car showroom opposite. It was quite interesting to see how close we became. Then they noticed me ... Came over... And had a little chat.... It was all very polite before bidding each other, "Good evening". Regards Christopher Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Nice photographs Christopher. Are you quick on your feet? On one or two occasions where I have tried to do this with geese, I discovered they are quick to change their minds about tolerating you....and none too shy about letting you know it.

I know, geese are fickle, these swans are very good natured. They are used to hundreds of people everyday. They are really too inquisitive for their own good. I love them and have photographed them many times before. Yes geese are different and will chase a person in numbers, [emoji3]. Doc Henry Posted February 14, 2017 Author Share #28252 Posted February 14, 2017 Here are two bridges which connect the island of Lidingö, viewed in the distance on the second one, with mainland Stockholm. The first shot was taken where the ferry to the islands comes in, it stops at the yellow mark. The second one also shows the old steel bridge, built in 1925 (Provia 400X and the 80 Planar, as usual). mrckdavies Posted February 14, 2017 Share #28256 Posted February 14, 2017 Nice series Chris , so you use flash for this kind of pictures , not a bad idea One question : why not shoot a day ? Nice color in the last picture Thanks for sharing Henry Henry I'm not sure I understand the question. But if you are asking why I don't shoot during the day, while it's really light outside, that's because I have too many things to do for my family. I shoot when I can make time. I'm mostly in work. I try and shoot lunchtimes when the light is interesting. At the moment I come home in the dark too. Weekends are busy with an eight year old daughter, and I make sure Sunday is a day set aside for church and wider family and film processing. Sometimes I shoot at those times too, but many like instant results, so then the M9, or Typ 109, or D610 is used. Next week I have some holidays with my wife and there are school holidays. So then I may see some daylight. It's a busy non-stop time. I do what I can, it's a careful balance. A few evenings I spend scanning, then I keep fit and take a little girl to swimming club and I'm the family cook... I have a passion for photography- there's always a Leica film camera in my bag. Kind regards Christopher Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
