Men at work (USA, CA, St. Barbara, Pier)

Nice shot.

As a clarification, I see only two of the men are working. The other two are standing there trying to look useful

Philip,

here it is, and I repeat, not film, not even Leica, but shown purely to show that stitching can work, sometimes.

The memory is not what it used to be, but I'd say the Ha (Hydrogen Alpha) shot is at least 4 panels, maybe 6. I tended to shoot quarters, plus a pair across the middle.

The white light shot possibly the same.

Getting them aligned in Photoshop was tedious, but once you got a system going it wasn't too bad.

Coincidentally, I noted the Ha shot isn't completely flat, one segment seems darker than the other. This is usually noticed more when you view from afar, or make the image smaller.

Gary

Excellent, Gary. Any chance you can give us a little run down on the capture process?

"This is usually noticed more when you view from afar" - I thought that was inherent in shots of the Sun

(Caveat: I am not to be held accountable for my sense of humour declining below the deplorable level)

Hmmmm, possibly, let me see if I can dig out a picture of the equipment. I fear it's getting a tad off (Leica especially) topic, and I've transgressed far enough as is.

I'll e mail you.

Simply beautiful flowers.  Love the prints.

That being said (to throw a wrench in it)... I do have a very special digital camera (a point and shoot at that, and no it's not a Leica) that does give me results that are close.

These are 24x36" prints and tack sharp without a trace of noise. Any noise you see is due to my X1 camera (at 1600 ISO) that I used to capture these pics of the print.

Keith - I prefer the top which is the film.  Much smoother transition between tonal ranges.  And easily can be dodged and burned more to increase the contrast like the second...

Another direct comparison taken with same cameras/lenses etc etc on the same walk.  It will be very interest to read which people think is which!

Edited to add:- and which do you prefer?

Very nice, S/W - btw my son and I will be schlepping to Santa Barbara to visit UCSB next Wednesday (in addition to USC and UCSD).  Looking forward to some fresh warm air!

Nice Steve.  Are you ready for tomorrow?  It is GAME ON - with the FLASH and PORTRA - OH BABY  :p

Back with my new toy, the Fuji GW690iii 90mm f/3.8 lens, here is a shot of Wall St in the morning, a residential/tourist street these days. Portra 800, 1/500 f/4 (I think) ....

I like both shots, Coogee. All you needed with the 2nd was for a puddle under the car and you would have had the full HCB decisive moment classic!

Thanks Eoin. I'm always up for a puddle. I love the way black and white film handles reflections, here film is surely without question King.

I must have missed this shot, JM, I love it! and I'm guessing even the perfectly placed bike, brush, boots were 'authentically' there?

Have fun getting in NYC's face guys, look forward to the results.

I should disclose... I did not take the photo of the flowers. It was a sample RAW file from the Sigma site, that I downloaded before I even owned the camera, processed and printed to see if the camera was up to my standards for prints. I think I made the order the next day  :p.

In other news, my printer has been given me an error code and I have let it sit for a long time (a couple years). I recently purchased new print heads for it (at great expense) and replaced them both today only to be given another code to replace the right print head!!  The tech on the phone said it could be a faulty new head, or I may need service...which will cost me dearly. I could almost buy a used 28 Elmarit instead  :o

Jonny I agree with Gary

Nice color and nice series.

I was in London last year and Chinatown is so small

just one street. In Paris it's bigger and we have 2 Chinatowns

Thanks for sharing

Best
