A great device indeed, Henry - and a delight to use!  One more from Saturday's walk on Martinsell Hill.  Bare beech tree.  I cannot help but be enamoured by the smooth tonal gradations that the Acros & Rodinal combination gives.   :)

1957 Leica IIIg, 1951 Summicron 5cm Collapsible, Acros 100, Rodinal.

Great picture again Keith

Thanks for posting

Keep your IIIg don't sell ! :)

I can tell you now that SLR Reflex is operational for SP

and easy to shot because the viewfinder is wider than M

and easier to focus  :)  in comparison with M

Gary sometimes you can have in some pictures a little blue cast

It can come from development IMO. In this case you correct a little

the temperature in LR (I do it) , it's nicer and more natural. I'll post

if you agree.

Henry

Go for it Henry, I'll give it a go myself if I get time today.

I notice it when I "proof" scan with the Epson (using VueScan), but it is also there when I use the Plustek (using either VueScan or SilverFast).

Well, I just mixed up some Xtol for the first time. The powder expired in 2011  :o so who knows when I actually bought it?? We'll see if it's still good. I mixed it outside with rubber gloves on (also a first). I think I want to adopt healthier chemical practices. In the past I would mix the powders (D-76, Fixer) inside and not use any gloves or even a mask. The only downside mixing outside, was a some debris from the air got in the mix, but I used a coffee filter to filter the developer before pouring into 5 1 liter bottles. Hopefully an unbleached Chemex coffee filter didn't contaminate the developer.

I'm an interested to try Xtol, and I have a TON more of it (given to me) that is even further out of date that 2011. If this stuff works, I'll even try a test batch of the older powder and see if it works too.

So far I've only ever used D76 and Tmax RS developers. I am interested in picking up some Rodinal very soon too. Hopefully I don't go into analysis paralysis with all of these developers  ;)

Gary here a (very) little correction on LR

By settling a little temperature cursor

Net over vines > a little more white

Green trees (left) , grass (in foreground)...  > greener and less dark

Brief picture a little lighter

In my experience of development color film , a little temperature variation

in the tank can give a veil or a cast . I think you give your film to a lab for development .

Can also due to old developer. With 1 liter of developer I can do around 10 rolls !

Gnu I look if the developer remains clear, if too dark I throw

I prefer to throw away rather than spoiling my film.

Not expensive b&w developer.

I use both Ilford and Kodak products

It's clear as a bell. Hopefully it works fine. I'll do a clip test, though have never done one before.

I've yet to read it through Henry, but will.

Essentially though I am not ever going to buy an M10, it just isn't me, and the cost to me is simply something I cannot justify.

I do however enjoy shooting digital, as and when it suits me. I am not hard nosed anti-digital, and use either if and whenever. My digital cameras now are simply the old and lovely X-Vario, and a new Fuji X-Pro2.

Of late I have been trying to do a comparison, X-Pro2 to the film camera I have in operation at the time. This is either the M6 or the R8. It's difficult in many ways, but the biggest "difference" is the M or R is full frame, whereas the Fuji is APS.

I ran a comparison, M6 with the 50 Summicron M, and the X-Pro2 with the 35 Summicron M, which gives similar but not exact field of view, and the lenses are of a "similar" vintage, so "look" the same.

Is there a difference? Indeed, but nobody would argue otherwise, they ARE different. Which do I prefer? Neither/both. Digital is cleaner, sharper, and quicker, no fuss, take the pic, upload via the phone and e mail it if I want.

Film I must shoot, hope like heck I got the shot, process the film, and scan (or print).

Two different disciplines, each with their own strengths, and weakness.

One thing is likely, you can have a play with the X-Pro2 in August, it will be along for the ride, accompanied by the M6, and the SWC, I'm going the whole hog.

I don't need camera with high Isos,  400 Isos are enough for me.

I prefer keeping the natural atmosphere , no denaturation of the picture

Now that's an awesome birthday pressie, congrats.

I have the R8, and the 28-70, plus a 35/2. I'm contemplating the 50 Summicron to add, even though I have a nice 50/2 on the Leicaflex SL (it is 2 cam, so won't fit the R8, darn).

Enjoy.

Paris is awash with bikes, and bicycles, as Henry's recent shot shows.

This from Blvd Beaumarchais, while I was scouting out some camera shops, and my wife visiting an old friend at Atelier Autrefois, do a search on that name,  there's a few references to him, but no real website, but he IS amazing, truly.

My limited experience doing c41 at home was that I 'got the cast' often enough that I decided I value my time more than the increased development cost of using a lab.

My shortcomings, not the process of course. B&W still stays very firmly 'in house'.

Lucky for all of us (and maybe 1% thanks to Henry's infectious enthusiasm alone  :) ), film is resurgent, new labs are opening, costs are cheap!

A better attempt with Portra 400

Nice to see so many (Arc de) Triumphs lined up there Gary, love the vivid colours of the Fuji Pro JM, the mood of the subway and never-ending curves of the Vélib Henry, the lazy beach Adam, and Happy birthday Christopher - you did very well!
