Great camera! If you want to put the case down you have to pull the two metal clamps on top (front open) nearby the leather straps. Then you can bend the case to the left and to the right and pull the camera out.

Thanks Klaus I have discovered that after reading the pdf manual I found online. Everything looks good. The only issue is a very slight detachment of the leather on the top corner of the protracting viewfinder. I think that can be glued, I'll have to look online to see about that. I seriously doubt this camera even needs a CLA though. Every thing is clean and smooth.

I am wondering which film I will put through this first

Well, this camera is about 60 years old and you never know... but if everything can be moved without much force, everything seems to be ok.

You know, that this model has a EV- Coupling- mechanism? First you set the EV- Value on the left dial (front sighted) and then you can lock this EV- value

with turning the inner part of the right dial. Now you have a mechanical P-Mode aas shutter speeds and f-stops moving togehther ;-)

And don´t forget about the film- sensing-mechanism when loading the camera. But  its all written in the manual.

From the last image, I believe that the focus is off, or something about the shutter speed that was used. I had not CLA'ed the camera prior to using it, and think of this as an error in my part of the machine. Am I correct to assume so? The sharp images are due to the deep depth of field afforded by the sun.

Ashop Edge, northern edge of Kinder Scout.  When you look back at where you've come from on that first day of backpacking the Pennine Way, it begins to sink-in that you're committed.  You're about half way along the first section on the first day and you still have over 300 miles to go.  You'll sleep well once you're over Bleaklow and in your tent at Crowden, though!

I'll be interested in your comments and comparisons with the M to the R (SL) Henry.

I'm finding the R8 vastly different from the M6, obviously, and in a better way. Apart from the size etc.

Gary

Gary I am back . After a day in Paris for a union meeting and 4 hours of walking in the streets of Paris, I used the Leica R4S and at the same time the Leicaflex SL to do Street photo.

My first positive impression is the clarity in the viewfinder, easy to make the focus almost instantaneous and I trigger right away. This clarity helps a lot to focus and does not tire the eyes. I am in conditions of cloudy, sunless weather.

The street photo is done with a lot easier with a reflex for this reason IMO , people do not notice my presence too much. I will develop the film and I will post some pictures here.

In summary the reflex can be used for street without problem . I had a 50 mm as lens on both cameras.

That said, the M is lighter , more discreet and less heavy. The R4S which closely resembles the Minolta SRT101 (there was a joint work between Leica and Minolta in the 1980s) is lighter than the Leicaflex and is more convenient !

I think you can use your R8 as camera for SP Gary
