Neath Canal at the Aberdulais basin.

A few weeks ago I posted some XP2 B&W shots of my lunchtime walk. I had the 28mm CZ Biogon 28/2.8 on the M6 TTL with Kodak Portra 400 at the same time. I find the lens really contrasty and I usually use it with the 35mm Summarit-M f2.4. All the shots here were scanned to DNG and processed in Adobe camera raw to JPEG's. I had a chance to look at them this afternoon, so I'll take you on little sight seeing tour.

The first shot is from the canal mooring area and is a reflection of the bare trees on the opposite bank.

From looking into the water reflecting the rich blue sky looking up is a walk up to a bridge which joins the mooring area to the canal.

The next shot is a view from that bridge looking down southwards on to the mooring area. Contre-jour because of the low mid-January sun in South Wales. (The jpeg has a correction at the top where I used the healing brush due to an annoying water mark along the top of the sky)

The bridge is covered in ivy. To the mid left of the shot is a road bridge with arched surface water drains coming out. Beside where I'm standing another track where the trees catch the sun running away from the bridge. This my next shot and following are the arches reflected under the bridge in the water of the canal.

Finally walking a little northwards up the canal.

Hope you've all had a good weekend. We've at least two weeks of rain forecast and it has rained all day - deep joy [emoji45].

Regards

When you scan your negative, you do it in DNG ? not in TIFF ? I think you can have the difference in general rendering .Try to scan the next time in TIFF. All my scan are in TIFF and keep in TIFF in my hard drive. With my 2 digital M, it's in DNG and DNG is less than TIFF in MO.With my Nikon Scan I can have , in TIFF , one color picture reaching more than 110 MO versus 45 MO DNG . You have much possibility to work if you need to correct with LR  , in TIFF.

Best

Neil I prefer the general rendering of SF. I remind using SF with my Epson V700 and you have

option "remove dust". My Epson scan is now sold.

I played with the Epson own software last night, it doesn't have the dust removal option but its very easy to use and the results are good to

Hilarious Phil, really funny, esp. the borderline obscene figure on the right :D

Well composing Phil and nice black and grey !

Best Henry

Nice photo, this.

Could this art-gallery be in Melbourne...?

Thank you sincerely Philip, Henry and Suede, and to all who took the time to look at my picture.

Philip, yes I really like the kind of absurd grouping of people - this just happened in real life - what a wonderful feeling when it happens and you happen to be there with a camera to catch it! Not sure the figure on the right is borderline obscene - after all it's art, innit?

Thanks Henry. I ended up cropping this square as there was a lot of extraneous background that I didn't think added to the picture. The tones held up pretty well though, even though in reality the neg is slightly underexposed.

Suede - this could indeed be the NGV in Melbourne, good call. I've found it to be a very happy hunting ground for pictures. Must get back there in the next week or two, although I think I may have a couple of undeveloped rolls from there.

Here's another from the NGV - from last year - for Suede:

Thanks, I know. I chose DNG because it was smaller. I have Lightroom but I only use it rarely.

I find I don't need it. I have been recommended some new ways of processing lately, but it will be another couple of weeks before I have time to do anything experimental. I have 2 very stressful weeks in work coming up.

I am a systems manager who looks after environmental, quality and health & safety Standards Certification. We have our 3 yearly recertification starting in a week.

I only work with a few things in my negative scans. Brightness, Shadow, Light, Blackness and white and sometimes for landscapes haze reduction. I use the heal function for watermarks and dust. I occasionally straighten and crop. That's it. I have already said twice, I am colourblind. I have to always ask another person if my colours are ok. So I do not change colours with colour temperature or tints, because I need someone else's opinion. I cannot see pale shades of green and red, blue and purple- they look the same. I prefer black and white because then I don't have to work hard. Before I post I ask at least 2 people if the photos look ok!

I will try a new way in two weeks Henry. TIFF seems in many ways from my past trials a waste of drive space that brings little benefit. But it's been a few years since then, so I will see once again if it is better in a few weeks.

I thank all of you for giving me advice- I love to improve what I do. All I need is time. Meanwhile keep up the good work Henry.

Best wishes

Christopher
