B&H carry 127, as well as a few other places, it is expensive though.

 

116 isn't too bad, you need some spacers in the camera for the 120 reels to sit against and you need to unload the camera in a darkroom or changing bag.

 

I love using these old cameras, I try to put a roll through every one I own, no matter how obscure.

 

Porta 400 may be too fast, these cameras were designed to use 32 ASA flm, the slower you use the better the results will be.

 

Thanks Mike, excellent point about the Portra speed. It's all I have in 120 at the moment - I might still load it and use it in less sunny situations than I'd otherwise have done. Could be interesting - I always liked the look of Kodak film - particularly Kodachrome - in situations when there was not much light, for example:

Canon F1, FD 24mm SSC, Kodachrome (I think 25 - this is a way underexposed slide as the light meter was acting wonky for a while there).

I'm wondering if I might have your thoughts on these four framings of the scene? I haven't harmonised the colour between them but just left Adobe Camera Raw at 'as shot'. I had to shoot them in a fairly quick succession because the sun was just about to disappear below the horizon (which it did in the last one). There are 2000dpi scans on Flickr for those who want to grain peep :)

I prefer 3 & 4: to me, the extra expanse of water makes the horizon seem more distant; it has the effect placing me on the water, which is where I would want to be.

If you look in Europe Fotoimpex dot de offers one 127 film: ( Rollei Rera Pan 100)

Macodirect dot de has 100 asa and 400 asa B&W film and a colour slide film for 127.

Now for something completely different....

 

Photography isn't always about pin sharp perfectly exposed images, I recently restored a 101 year old Kodak Brownie to working condition.

I loaded this camera up with some Portra 160 and took it on a trip to Springfield Illinois. The weather that day was not good, it was foggy, but here is the first of 5 photos I took that day with this Centenarian:

The lens is already low contrast and the fog doesn't help, I'm going to run some black and white film through this camera on a sunny day next.

 

It's a little like pinhole pictures but larger (in principle ?) .Color is still nice

This is one of my favourite street photos from Italy.  One of those rare moments when I got in close (like Adam  :) )

 

Taken with Leica M6, 35mm Summicron, Tri-X pushed to 800 (or maybe 1600), HC-110 (dilution H)

I've only been shooting film for the last 5 or so months, but I'm loving it. The feel, the process, and the look are all part of what makes it so enjoyable for me.

Hey Mike, great photos from a seminal photographic apparatus. Now that's really a coincidence, as I was given a Kodak Brownie earlier this month for my birthday - exactly the same as the one I started my photographic journey on more than 50 years ago. It takes 8 6 X 9cm pictures on a roll of 120 film, but you have to either rethread the film onto the slim 620 spools or carve off a bit of the plastic 120 spools then file them to make them round enough and small enough to fit in the camera. Here's a picture from the first roll I've used with it (on Fuji Acros 100):

That it's ugly that b&w > "artificialand "cutting"  edges and lines , smoothed pixels

(pictures of Alex)  in comparison with film.  "Fully synthetic"  image coming from an

"electronic machine"  or "robot" !

Thanks Henry. The original is crisp but when I downscaled it on an app on my ipad it softened the image quite a lot. I need to find a way to resize my images on my ipad that doesn't soften everything. I'd rather not have to switch to my computer to upload images.

Mike , you can work pictures on your iPad ?  enough memory for photo software in your iPad ?
