At this time there were Thai and Laos gunboats running up and down the river, and there were skirmishes further North, above Chiang Khan. At night, Thakek would have loudspeakers pumping propaganda across the beautiful river, presumably decrying the bright lights of NP (Kodachrome scanned as B&W)...
