Incidentally, here is the photo of this scene that is hanging prominently in the lobby of my office building in lower Manhattan.

Seems to be possibly taken with some kind of large format as there is more compression in the scene than mine. I have been challenged by this photo to try to get a better-looking one on my own...

How far did you go, Keith? I think that path leads down to an old drove way (the line that follows the hedge in middle distance) which brings you out on the road to Wilcot. The last time I walked it (in June I think) the drove track was waist high deep with grasses and very thick with umbellifers.

No further than pictured- after all, what goes down has to come up again!  ;)

Here is an alternative square format that (I think) Philip was suggesting. I realized that i could manage to keep the view of the three bridges to some degree.

 

What do ya'll think???

 

 

Both are great, but I like the first version a little bit more :)

Second version for me - it has more impact with fewer distractions pulling the eye to the left edge.

I've often wondered about the pairing, 60 and 100mm on the 500 Keith.

These look stunning. Need to revert to your Portra and show us some of that.

That's exactly the combo I chose more than 50 years ago. Still got them. Never owned an 80mm standard in that time.

They work more to my natural vision than other combos.

Here's an interesting comparison in how my iPhone saw this scene and how my Ektar saw the scene. Shows how the Ektar really has a mind of its own. Never know what you're gonna get...

Thanks, Gary.  Portra results could be a while coming, what with the Christmas/New Year break etc - in the meantime here are two more from yesterday's test. In the first photo, I was quite impressed at the way the subtle tonal gradation of the damp sheen on parts of the tree on the right have been captured by the Fomapan.

Incoming tide, Outer Hebrides.  The smell of peat fires and dinners being cooked in nearby crofts drifted on a gentle breeze over the sands.  Amazing how keen the human sense of smell is when you're hungry!
