A miller Posted November 19, 2016 Share #23903 Posted November 19, 2016 Chiangmai (SWC w/ Tri-X)... C001 by Eoin Christie, on Flickr C002 by Eoin Christie, on Flickr great stuff, Eoin. I'm having fun watching you having fun I don't have a M9, and I seldom shoot Portra 400 (usually Ektar, if I'm shooting colour), but I do like what it does. To me it is very subtle, and it somehow moves the viewing away from looking at a picture, to looking at what's in the picture. I don't know if that makes sense as written, but it is that subtle humanisation / naturalisation that can bring a sense of being there. i like your above shots, as they have the feeling of Thailand coming through. It doesn't work for all content, and Adam has been working hard at demonstrating how the same scene renders differently using different C41 and E6 emulsions. For me, the M9's disadvantage is with the skin tones, which often render reddish. ISO is also a big factor, with the M9 the grain at 800 is not very lovely but with portra 400 at 800 the grain is, well, real grain.
A miller Posted November 19, 2016 Share #23904 Posted November 19, 2016 Got my first roll back from the lab Bavarian autumn: Bild-1-98.jpg Mamiya 645 1000s - Velvia For Klaus - and for all film lovers out there :-) This picture was cropped due to boring sky. I measured the light at the darker parts in the middle of the frame, thus the sky was slightly overexposed. Bavarian landscape: Bild-1-421.jpg Mamiya 645 1000s - Velvia 50 Hey James - These last three you posted rock! Congrats!
A miller Posted November 19, 2016 Share #23905 Posted November 19, 2016 Adam's 1-5: imo it might be the Hassy, the film etc...but mostly the human - the photographing artist Even if ever restricted to a phone or a disposable-Fuji-fim-toy you'd create "Millers" Many thanks for your pictures over the years! Very kind, thanks very much
A miller Posted November 20, 2016 Share #23906 Posted November 20, 2016 From Eoin's SWC photos from his old market in Chainmai, to my SWC photos from the old historic and ever dynamic "Mehane Yehuda" market in Jerusalem. Started under Ottoman rule, this market has evolved from a filthy disgusted food market to a less filthy market enhanced with lots of trendy cafes, restaurants and pubs. There are stalls open in this market 22 hours a day. After hours the market becomes a hot spot for drinking eating, dancing and life. This past year, an artist made a project out of painting wall murals on all of the doors of the market stalls. At night when most of the stalls are closed and the restaurants, pubs and a few cafe stay open, the market becomes an indoor graffiti gallery that is so much fun to hang out in. To Steve Blitz's chagrin, I captured nearly all of these mural with my SWC and either Provia 1200F, Velvia 50 or Ektar. Here are a few from the market... Provia 100F, SWC Welcome, dear visitor! Keith (M) Posted November 20, 2016 Share #23912 Posted November 20, 2016 Well, our local weekly market is much less colourful, but even on a dull November day there were smiles Rolleicord Vb, Fomapan 200 (first roll of this film that I have tried), Rodinal 1:50. A miller Posted November 20, 2016 Share #23917 Posted November 20, 2016 Very strong composition, Adam, love it! It's a pity, you didn't find the time to sweep the floor and make it shine like the ceiling Thanks, James. Yes, that's NY for you. Under-attended and overtaxing. Perhaps the massive national infrastructure project scheduled to be launched by our new Presidential administration will straighten some of this out Putting that aside, the ceiling is, I believe, tiled with big gloss ceramic (or marble) whereas the floor is simple matte stone. It could still use a cleaning, though!
