janorun974 Posted October 21, 2016 Share #22846 Posted October 21, 2016 (edited) Hello Friends, Recently I wanted to make a transition to digital, sold my imacon scanner (too big for my desk:) ) but finally I didn't found a m9 monochrome for my budget... so I'm foresee to rest in peace with film and buy a new lens maybe a 21mm ... and even if M9 monochrome files are stunning in quality, I have more feeling to shot analog and thinking to my scene... I'm definitively in love with my film camera... have a good weekend! Here is a scan from a coolscan 5 - leica M7 - 35 summicron asph - XP2outdated - MADAGASCAR : Welcome, dear visitor! I like the zone and the Riesling from this area ... GER_2016_R1_Rheingau_AgfaAPX100_18_listo.jpg I am sorry, but I am wrong. It was an Agfa APX 100 (new emulsion) instead of a Tri-X. Doc Henry Posted October 21, 2016 Author Share #22850 Posted October 21, 2016 (edited) Hello Friends, Recently I wanted to make a transition to digital, sold my imacon scanner (too big for my desk:) ) but finally I didn't found a m9 monochrome for my budget... so I'm foresee to rest in peace with film and buy a new lens maybe a 21mm ... and even if M9 monochrome files are stunning in quality, I have more feeling to shot analog and thinking to my scene... I'm definitively in love with my film camera... have a good weekend! Here is a scan from a coolscan 5 - leica M7 - 35 summicron asph - XP2outdated - MADAGASCAR : Jean , very nice picture of this rural scene of your Island , great deep black . You're right for your choice. Congrats for your M7 and Coolscan V scanner Jean, as this is a thread "I like the film," this gives me the opportunity once again to answer in this thread, why I now prefer the film , although I know that digital is “practical” and with “immediate results” . But that convenience has drawbacks that I mentioned earlier in severai of my posts . Not true color, black and white "approximate" (black inhomogeneous and "stuffy") ,too clear lines and edges, too "sharp" as I say , giving the picture an "artificial" appearance and a "synthetic" image as I said, "plastified" as said Eoin , picture "flat" (ie sharp everywhere because the camera photo software has no intelligence and has no concept of "nuance"), adverse effects due to the sensor and the electric signal (aliasing, moire etc ...), definition or resolution "insufficient" , loss of definition by smoothing pixels (sharpness of digital is a false concept) and other reasons like having always need photo software (LR, CO, PS) to correct his picture .... Every time I answer in a thread as here * , every time some gatekeepers of the digital (I nicknamed the "ayatollahs" of digital) challenge me and tell me "not touch the digital". Yes, but what arguments they have to against-swinging my arguments ? . I have arguments but them? (I have listed you some above) and then I always have my 2 digital cameras to compare (that allow me to compare the two types of photos). While the digital temple guard is good, but show me by evidence and arguments, which is better or superior !!! I do not declare war with digital, but as long as support is not satisfactory, I change. When I see your photos in MF, I am extremely surprised at the quality of photos in color or b&w . No need to follow the race to the increasing number of pixels or the growing number of Isos, you better keep your 24x36 or 6x6 cameras and save money. I stopped for 6 years to go in this race especially with CMOS sensor (CCD ** is better) , certainly too bad for Leica revenues ... but if I have to buy cameras, it will be the analog MF or Leica M (MA, 2nd MP , 2nd M7 etc ...) or Leica lenses a 21mm in ex as said Jean. That said, you do what you want, this is just the humble opinion of someone doing the photo from the years 1969 when I was a student (with my first LeicaflexSL) and has 5 years of digital behind me , always with Leica gear exclusively. Maybe I will change my opinion , when research sensors propose a sensor that approaches or is like the film , in first film grain as said Neil and natural color without correction . I hope I do not get mad gentlemen who still shoot digital and they continue to post here in film thread If you have arguments, feel free to leave your opinion . Thanks All to read this post. Doc Henry Posted October 21, 2016 Author Share #22855 Posted October 21, 2016 I prefer the second shot, Henry. I don't think it has only to do with the film You used. I love the picture ! Thank you Jean Marie I want just to show you here the difference in black between the 2 films as I notice since I use them. Doc Henry Posted October 21, 2016 Author Share #22860 Posted October 21, 2016 On my usual "challah run" to Williamsburg, Brooklyn last Sunday, I took the opportunity to meander around the neighborhood and watch religious Jews shop for Etrog fruits for the upcoming Sukkoth (Succos) holiday. These Etrog are required to be purchased and prayed with during the holiday. They are considered to have very deep spiritual significance. There is a plethora of laws regarding the pristine condition that the Etrogs must be in to qualify as "kosher" for the holiday. In this spirit, people spend an inordinate amount of care and energy examining these fruits before purchasing them - even with the use magnifying glasses in many cases. A friend of mine in my community (which is MUCH more modern than the folks in Williamsburg) boasted of paying $500 for his Etrog this holiday Here are a few results... 503cw, 80mm 2.8 planar Fuji Pro 400H sukkot-5.jpg 2nd 503cw, 80mm 2.8 planar Fuji Pro 400H sukkot.jpg 3rd 503cw, 80mm 2.8 planar Fuji Pro 400H sukkot-4.jpg 4th 503cw, 80mm 2.8 planar Fuji Pro 400H sukkot-2.jpg LAST 503cw, 80mm 2.8 planar Fuji Pro 400H sukkot-3.jpg I like All Adam .Through your pictures I can see how they live.
