A miller Posted October 19, 2016 Share #22703 Posted October 19, 2016 Adam Im using Plustek OpticFilm 120 I am sorry that I cannot help you. But you have a really weird phenomenon with that line. Too bad b/c your vuescan files otherwise come out really good (at least as a starting point for further improvement)
MT0227 Posted October 19, 2016 Share #22704 Posted October 19, 2016 Neil...I use VueScan and never have seen an artifact like you are experiencing... very odd it doesn't present itself in SilverFast. I'm not a SilverFast user but I'd check out two things (1) are you somehow applying a mask (pre-set film setting) to the output and (2) look to see if they have a setting for auto color levels. In VueScan... I can't tell you how many times I've freaked myself out initially by having the wrong pre-set film mask being applied to the output. Here is a test image scanned with Silver fast and Vuescan First one below is with Vuescan.............I love the way this has been scanned except for the big frigging vertical line down the middle. 2016-10-19-0001.jpg The second scan is via Silverfast and as you can see the quality of the scan is sh!te compared to the Vuescan scan but as you can also see there is no vertical line Test-(2).jpg Can someone try and help me again with the settings, especially those using Silverfast. I contacted someone at Vuescan but they answer my mails now!! They were both auto adjusted using ACR with no other adjustment

They were both auto adjusted using ACR with no other adjustment I would suggest the line was something physical rather than software related, I recently had a similar line appear on my Epson V600, I don't know exactly what it was but blowing everything off with canned air got rid of the line. A miller Posted October 19, 2016 Share #22712 Posted October 19, 2016 (edited) what and where is the ICE function sir in the "filter" tab (check "non" in "Infared clean" setting. I'd also make sure the multi-exposure setting is off in the "input" tab Edited October 19, 2016 by A miller
gbealnz Posted October 19, 2016 Share #22713 Posted October 19, 2016 Some good advice here Neil, keep working on this, and keep the lines of communication going with Ed H, I've found him to be excellent for the few minor queries I had. They should not be any difference between Vuescan and Silverfast, slight, but not the light and day difference between the two shots you posted. Additionally, the line should not be there, or it should be there in both, so it is a setting possibly. I just checked my Plustek (8100, not the 120 version). Multi-Exposure not checked, and I don't have anything that says "ICE". Keep at it. Gary

A miller Posted October 19, 2016 Share #22719 Posted October 19, 2016 Yea f@cking beauty.......thanks MTO227 and everyone else on this amazing forum :) Interesting; my guess is that there is still an underlying problem and it is just that the infrared clean setting (which is the "ICE" dust removal setting) is regarding it as dust and removing it. Still a step in the right direction but I would nevertheless still pursue a final solution from Hamrick as using the dust removal feature to remove the large vertical line might slightly degrade your image quality...
MT0227 Posted October 19, 2016 Share #22720 Posted October 19, 2016 Well now we know some more info, and narrowing in on the problem. This feature is helpful with removing dust using color film, you want to be able to use it. Until you get a permanent fix, give your negatives a good dusting . If you are getting the exact same line in the exact same place, regardless of negative...I'm wondering if the infrared cleaning software is picking something up from the scanner. How hard is it to give the lens elements a dusting? Yea f@cking beauty.......thanks MTO227 and everyone else on this amazing forum :)
