nothing fancy, Henry.

On the way to Israel, I put all my film packs into a huge insulated lunch bag and ran it through the security x-ray machine for hand bags at JFK.  No iso above 400 so no worries.

On the way back, I had most of the film already processed.  But for the rolls that I didn't, it was a much lighter load so I had the airport security person at the airport in Tel Aviv hand check the rolls so they wouldn't have to go through the x-ray machine again.  He did so w/o any fancy equipment or swabs.  Just an abundance of common sense. :)

So no bag

Thanks Adam for your reply .

I have often seen in the past in "film" section questions about the transport of film rolls when traveling

So if anxiety , take a protective bag as Domke bag (30 Euros), otherwise do as Adam nothing  !

You know now and film with low Isos is better :)

I have Isos 160 and 100 and all my films are without damage (20 rolls) .

At 6 am , this fish beach market is already full of people  :)

Fishermen who come from boats stationed at sea, paddle in their boats,
kind of round boat come to sell their fishery products.

Very impressive atmosphere !

The father in the foreground is a fisherman just landed and kisses his young daughter,

he spent few days in the sea , he said me !

I found some natural GRAFFITI in the sandstones of the crater within Mount Sodom (adjacent to the Dead Sea)

All natural colors from the very fragile sandstone.

Cool, eh?

Hi Adam,

Thanks for your generous offer, It's very kind of you.  I didn't win the Jobo auction, went for too much...still looking ;)  I ended up getting a Jobo tank which is for either hand held agitation or machine rotation (if I decide to go in deeper).  I was a bit of a chemistry geek in high school and had most of the mixing tools needed, I just had to get a few storage containers.  So... I've got all my chemicals mixed, if all goes as planned and I get home at a reasonable hour,  I hope to start on my first roll tonight.... Tri-X in D76 1:1

-Marc

Marc - I have a "quick and dirty" set up (black apron, Patterson tank, large standing test tubes for measuring the developer, stop bath, etc, etc) that I am more than happy to pass to you if you want to give it a try with only the minimal cost of developer, stop bath and fixer...  I can bring it all downtown one day that is convenient for you...

Hi Philip....I think the watering can is cool.  The end where the water comes out is over a lighter colored brick compared to all the other bricks.  I would crop out the bottom line of bricks and big toe ;) to accentuate this.

I'll continue to bore you with thoughts on compositions. So this idea of negative space, right, what's your view on that? I find it tricky to execute sometimes, particularly when there are several planes in a photo. Here are three examples. Not the greatest photos (though Henry might enjoy the balloon photo). All Rollei Retro 80S in Diafine with the 50 Summicron (11817).

It's an interesting film I find. Of the two developers I know - HC110 and Diafine - it works better in HC110. I've shot it at EI1000 with good results. As can be seen in the series above, with Diafine it becomes a bit grainy at higher EI in darker settings and perhaps a bit mushy. The only way around it in post is to crush the blacks but I didn't do that for the series because I wanted to retain some tonality. Then again I shot that roll from late afternoon into the night and as you can see on the earlier shots the grain is much better controlled. Overall it is a great very versatile film that also dries quite flat which helps scanning. Being movie stock it also has quite cool halos around bright lights, which I like a lot (at least I assume that's the reason; seems similar to how Cinestill behaves).

Really nice, JM. Old Tri-X as in 5063? Which developer is this with? I really like the tonality.

Yes, 5063 developed in D76 !

Superb picture Jean-Marc

Ah TX even old !

Thanks for posting

Glad see  you back :)

First one's terrific Henry, looks impressively smooth too.

Fireworks photography is really quite forgiving and easy if the background is just dark blue or black. It's just a matter of adding bright streaks of light. I'll soon scan the Superia 800 I also shot with the EOS so it will be interesting to compare.

Thank you Marc. Yes the toe ended up on the frame but it was actually deliberate because I wanted to see how the "negative space" idea would play out. Not very well as it turns out haha. I think you're right that cropping away the toe will create a stronger composition particularly since it would help highlight the spout above a brighter stone (which I hadn't noticed - thanks for spotting it :) ).

Both are quite relaxing and enjoyable to view, I think the soft color adds to this effect....thus I really like the color version.

I like this type of narrative photography, Henry. It really puts us there with the aid workers.

Thank you Philip and all of you for your comments about the pictures of these refugees.

This touches me much , I was in touch with them for Médecins Sans Frontières

If we have the heart and less wickedness .... not as a certain US presidential candidate

in regard to the refugees

I'm fine with the sky, it adds dimension and contrast as opposed to blue across the frame.

Thanks, Steve. I just love velveeta and all of its saturated glory :)
But you are right, it was late afternoon and i was shooting pretty much due south; hence the slight unevenness in the sky
