Normally four parts to the equation Adam, you're selling yourself a bit short here.

Sure, the Biogon, the Velvia, and the light played their part, but the happy snapper also did his bit.

Well done.

Gary

ha, ha, thanks, Gary.  Perhaps I am part of the equation, albeit the weakest link no doubt

Adam,

I love your scenes from Israel, the saturated colours making them leap off the screen. The last being particularly interesting - some fossilized trees perhaps?

Thanks for sharing,

Charles

Thanks, Charles!  Yes, this is all fossilized rocks.  It is right along the Dead Sea and well below sea level and so was all once under the sea.  Very cool stuff!

Eoin - YES, you have found pay dirt, my friend.  This is the range that you need to be at in order to bring what you are seeing into proper perspective for the "people watching" loving viewer.    Keep it up.  Lots of interesting moments there.  Head and shoulders above the more distant scenes that you have shown to us in the past.

Eoin I prefer these shots more expressive than pictures you posted before :)

Thanks for posting

Quite honestly, BOTH work in their own right, Henry.  I'd keep them both.

I am listening currently the same version of "The Twilight of Gods"("Crépuscules des Dieux") of Richard Wagner in vinyl disc and CD , by the late Pierre Boulez , Conductor.

This is without appeal vinyl disc is higher in depth and relief than CD

Not understand the abandonment of the vinyl

It's like film with digital !

Another rather monolithic formation from Mount Sodom, Israel

I was concerned about the rather wide tonal range and whether the Velvia 50 could handle it.  I think it did pretty well!  Comments are welcome!

somehow it managed not to come out too saturated, as per usual with velveeta, perhaps it is high sun and lack of moisture in the air. regardless, colors came out great .....

Thanks, Steve. I just love velveeta and all of its saturated glory :)

But you are right, it was late afternoon and i was shooting pretty much due south; hence the slight unevenness in the sky

Adam color is superb , definition is fine  :)

The difference between the two rocks give a nice rendering to the picture with colors.

Soft lines by film and nice to watch.

Early evening with the Velvia 50 punching up the reflection of the blue sky and warm sun...

(I find the natural saturation of the velvia 50 and lack of grain to be quite incredible and unmatched by any film)

I like that it shows dramatically (how close were you?) the ridge; I can almost imagine the forces that caused this formation. Did you lift the shadows at all? I like that the overhang of the structure retains a lot of detail. It increases the drama. I'm thinking of how you describe how you use your spot meter. Did you use it in this case? And if so, was the brightest non-reflective part on which you metered the triangular part of the foot of the structure, to the right (just above the grass)? All in all great work on nailing both exposure and composition.

I like this type of narrative photography, Henry. It really puts us there with the aid workers.
