Gary, it's good to see someone using the R8. IMO one of the best allround cameras ever made. Fabulous VF. I too have the R28-70 zoom and never liked it because of the 'variable' aperture when zooming. I used to use a lot of flash synch anf that variation really upset me. I now use that lens on my Sony A7S when (occasionally) shooting video. My R80/1.4 lives on the R8 with occasional use of the R70-180. Just love the R8 for it's ergonomics and functionality.

Here's the second and last EKTAR image from the series that I will be sharing.

I like it less than the one from yesterday, but I do really love the rendering of the aquas.

I just love the water when it reflects the sky like this...

Either/both, are fine Adam, I'd be happy with them, any of them. This one looks very "aqua" in the upper sky as you said, initially I thought it "odd", but it is just the way the sky has turned.

Nice shot(s).

Thanks Erl.

I had an R8 a while back, when I found a DMR. I got cold feet with the DMR and sold it, then the R8 too. In retrospect I wonder if I should have kept the DMR, but the last thing I wanted was such an expensive paperweight, and I got decent money for it.

This R8 had a nice 35/2 Summicron M attached, and I bought into it for the Summicron, with the rationale that it would go nice on the SL (Leicaflex, NOT Leica SL). But as you say, after using it for a while, it is nice, OK it's huge and heavy compared to the M6/7, but still nice. The R28-70 I already had, and it is a ROM variant, so plays nice with the R8. I could easily sell it though, and look for something around the 24mm, or 21mm range. I'd always figured the M stuff for the wider/widest focal lengths, but the external finder is a pain big time to me, so maybe the R will fill this niche. The M6/7 is nicest (to me) with the 35 or 50mm lenses.

A few shots I took in April 2016, in the steel-making Welsh town of Port Talbot. I used an M2 and an M5, plus 28mm Summicron ASPH, 35mm Summaron, and 90mm Tele-Elmarit "fat" version for this project.

Cheers,

Colin
