I like grain of film (not "smoothed" pixels) and specially Kodak TX , nicer in print :)

Oh I was poking fun at your typo "heave"  :D . I am not opposed to traveling light, but I would face such a dilemma as well (4x5, 5DmkII, M6, Sigma Faveon, etc.) If I had an S2 that would be even harder to leave home (and would replace the 5D). I think the M6 and the S2 would be a happy compromise.

Neil and GN ,I like to travel light and M is perfect (less 600 g each) :D

with one or two lens , but a lot rolls of film : in August I'll bring with me 50 rolls of color and b&w.

Camera and lens in my Billingham bag. Film rolls in cabin bag :)

Ok so I've been absent for a few weeks...I've been busy :)

My wife took an interest in a TLR and so I jumped at the chance to get her involved. (she's never really been "into" photography but she does like taking pictures somewhat.)

I got her a Yashica 635 figuring that if we failed on the medium format front, she could always just shoot 35mm. (it shoots both)

Well...long story short, she loved it and we bought a bunch of Arista Ultra 100 120 film to shoot, and that was so great that I bought an RB67 Pro to mess with. (I love it...what a loveable brick of a camera)

I had to upgrade my enlarger to a Beseler 23CII to accomodate the larger negs and since my scanner wouldn't scan MF negatives, I had to figure out some way to scan them. I looked around and found that using a DSLR was cheaper and yielded better quality negs than a flatbed so I bought a used Nikon D90 and manual focus macro 55mm lens.

I already had a light table and I used a broken Omega B22 enlarger as a copy stand; I just took a bit of "L" shaped aluminum stock from work and made a mount for the camera. it works great. I used my laser alignment tool to get it square and I'm very happy with the results.

What I have here is just a ONE shot scan (no stitching)...this is going to be my "everyday posting to Facebook" sized scan. I won't do a super stitched scan unless I have a reason.

The flower picture is the first shot I took with the Mamiya and the second shot is a test shot to see how the camera would work with a speedlight and triggers.

Thanks, Henry.

Unfortunately it was getting dark, so shutter speed was down, and lens wide open - My eyes couldn't keep up on the focus front, and my hands were not as steady as they should have been.

Fun, anyway...

The only expertise I have is knowing that choosing "2" lenses is more or less a continuous thought process until you leave for the airport ;)

So, if it's a gone burger with the 50 - 400 push, is there any sense in going completely off the wall, and trying B&W chemistry?

Thanks, Henry.

They are with the standard 80mm Planar, and are in Kuala Lumpur. I was struggling with my eyes, and with f/2.8 x 1/60s - More because of my frame of mind than because of the parameters. I ended up with a bunch of poor focus / soft shots, but I like the colours.

Marc,

When I speak "an expert", I mean expert in travel, accustomed to travel, it's a chance

Marc you travel a lot  ?

28 mm for street photos as does Adam or landscapes

and 50 mm  a narrower view (corresponding to angle of view of the human eye)

and the 90 mm still closer (0.70 m) for flowers or other nature topics or as tele
