I believe I just wasted a roll of 120 Velvia 100. E-6 chemicals have such a short shelf life that I'm loathe to buy kits and have them go off, and the nearest place that does E-6 processing involves a two hour drive each way. So I thought I'd be brave and do the deed using some basic chemistry. The first developer is a B&W developer containing hydroquinone and phenidone, so out came the Diafine. Gave it a good wash after, and then tried to fog it to expose the undeveloped silver (this is done chemically in the E-6 process, but in the old days it involved exposing the film to light. It is said you can't overfog a film, but you can underfog it. So I looked around on the web and decided to try holding the film a few inches from a 100W bulb for a couple of minutes, using a translucent reel and rotating it all the while. Then into the C-41 process in the normal way, except for being rather generous with the time in the blix (a recommendation I came across when reading it up). The film came out of the final wash evenly black, so I guess you can overfog it! I have to visit the hematology clinic in three weeks, so perhaps I'd better expose the remaining six or seven rolls in the freezer and drop them off in Halifax when I'm down there. Live and learn.

Chris

PS film is drying and I just held up a strong light behind it - there are images and there is colour. It may be too dark to scan, but I'll give it a try later.

Chris , I think GaryGS has developped E6 slides in b&w and it works well. I think he"ll intervene to give us some more information...

Pre Wee Beasties on The Misty Isle. Little buggers will feast on your eyeballs, in your ears, up your nose and make life difficult down in the glens. Altitude, a good breeze and a liberal coating of 'Smidge' does the trick. It's getting toward their time again!

Very lovely, Steve, as always. Is that really a 50mm lens?

35mm summicron Provia 100-F  Really beginning to enjoy the color from this film, and as befits this thread, film generally. These are my sweetheart's son and her grandson (his son, BTW), at about 6 weeks ....
