I remember the day when I told my girlfriend that I bought a Leica III. She saw it and said: "Wow, this camera is so beautiful. Take a picture of me". So I took a picture of her and then she asked me: "Show me the picture". I told her that this is not possible because it is really an old camera not just one that looks old. Then she get confused and asked me how she can get the picture then. So I told her that I have to finished the film first, take it to a photo dealer to get it developed and then scan it at home... well, I think all of you can imagine the reaction...  :D

Did your son take the shot, Keith? I was riding CB750's and CB550's back then - Beemers being a little out of my league at the time.

Yes he did.  We were with a short tour organised by the South-West Chapter of the BMW Club of Great Britain - super bunch of down to earth people.  Took the early ferry from Plymouth to Roscoff, which meant leaving home about 4.00am and part way down the M5 I felt my son's head nudging me in the back - he had nodded off!  Photo below are of some of group's bikes outside the hotel in La Foret Fouesnant.  A great time was had by all :)

Really good. I am sure you'll be very happy with the VI, it's a great scanner, as this image shows very clearly.

I think you'll be very happy with the Coolscan James. I have the V which was a small update from the IV and find that it delivers excellent results, like your photo shows.

 

 

Thank you all for your comments, I didn't find the time to respond earlier. My job keeps me more than busy at the moment. These days I made some comparison scans between my Minolta Dimage Scan Dual IV and the Coolscan IV. In the end it is a tight race between the two scanners, if compared by resolution and sharpness only. But the Coolscan wins in overall handling and quality, as ICE spares a lot of time and the color output is that good that there is not much need to post process the images. I noticed, that the reds are bit to saturated, but i made a profile in LR to tweak this. Here are two examples - the image was shown here some time ago:

The first image shows about 30 steps in the LR Protocol (with about 20 steps in dust removal), while the second needed only 3 steps (lights restored, shadows pushed, blacks pulled) - done in merely 30 seconds.

In an attempt at taking out the Numpty of the Year Award, I managed to shoot a whole roll of Ektar 100 with a yellow filter still on the lens (M6 TTL w/ 50mm Apo Summicron) - Only 1 stop better than shooting with the lens cap on. Here's how the scanned Lomoaccidents looks straight, slightly de-yellowed, and in B&W.

 

Lucky I'm not paid to do this...

I very much like the de-yellowed version because it has a cinematic look somehow. It also seems Ektar converts very well to black and white.

I like how the landscape emerges through the fog here and that you've included so much sky as a sort of negative space. It's a nice composition that suits the image well.

Thank you Eoin. It is indeed the palace main spire or tower in the background. I tried to line it up with the column but failed to pay attention to the verticals in the fence. Oh well I'll just have to wait for next major fog and do it again.

 

It may be terminal, Philip - You've seen what it's done to Ric. I like how the spire (?) in the background appears almost as a flame coming from the fence column.

What a good idea - will have to try that!  ;)  After all, you then can choose between the very cinematic looks of the de-yellowed or the excellent monochrome tones...

 

PS - couple of years ago I went out with my (then) M9 + 28mm Elmarit-M + lens hood, camera set to monochrome mode to photograph snowy scenes.  Only when downloading them did I realise the yellow filter was still fitted from using the lens on my MP.  Your Ektar de-yellowed and monochomes actually look better than my attempts to rescue the .dng's.
