Bedruthan Steps is a 200 acres Site of Special Scientific Interest,  (SSSI) designated for its geological and biological interest in 1951. It is noted for its slates and fossils from the Middle Devonian period, various mosses and beetles.Bedruthan Steps is also a Geological Conservation Review (GCR) site because it is a ″source of rare fish specimens″ which were first reported in 1848 by W Pengelly.

Out of interest that was a roll end so this was on the next roll, same developer, same tank actually, on Fomopan 100 @100. Great lens BTW.

Looking out of the window right now, it's snowing like hell, foggy like hell, and the snow's deep enough to cover the last few tips of grass.

So shall pop out with my new to me Rollei 35SE and Ilford HP5+ *and* a roll of Delta 400 to see what they can do.

Shall only see the results on a week or so, but best get my skates on...

p.s. I'm stepping out for a while... I may be some time.

Thank you Chris. This is interesting to read. I've thought about the H models because the H1, 2 and 3 are really dropping in price (even with a digital back and lens included). Oddly, while I am entirely uninterested in digital in 35mm, I am open to trying it in 6x6, either with an affordable H or with a back on my 203 (please don't evict me from the thread for thinking these impure thoughts...).

Sometimes I wish I was commercial and could direct then though!!

The backs are great, easy to load built in dark slide, and imprinting available. Only problem I have had is the CR123 that drives it although they last a long time and are supposed to show the power level I have twice had a battery give up mid-roll and that confuses the camera and the back. The roll is toast, no rewind, unless you have a spare and can resort to the darkroom to get it out without loss. Very rare though.

The H is of course very different from the V in all handling aspects, I usually say the only thing they have in common, other than the name, are the two notches in the film gate, kudos for keeping that.

You can pick them up complete for £1,000 which has to be a bargain. Should the urge take they will accept a di****l back.

Oh I'm so happy! Turns out my Minolta scanner does work!! The last time I tried to use it, I could not get it to take my film holders. I though it was broken, and it sat for years. On a whim, I tried it again today, planning to see what I could do about fixing it. When I plugged it in and opened up VueScan it gave me a message to calibrate. Huh? So I looked within the menu of VueScan and sure enough there was a Calibrate function. That did it!

Anyway, my first scan in a long time  - this time color neg - which I have very little experience shooting and no experience scanning or printing. I usually shoot slide film or B&W negative film (or Digital lately). I can't get my Portra shots to look like I want. Some of the examples posted here are really great (recently the medium format shot of a guy fishing posted a few pages back - the colors in that are fantastic)

Thank you Henry, with that Retropan the grain shines through whatever the developer, and I've tried a few and friend has tried some I haven't all the same  :)

It can be great, even though the scanners even out the contrast somewhat, it is very visibly low when you hang a roll against a "conventional" film, another interesting tool to have.

Right, I fired off a roll of each. Let's see which one I prefer with such conditions. Snowing, snowing, foggy, foggy.
