thanks, Henry.  I think that nowadays Joel is more of a paid spokesman for Leica and other photography, which takes away some of the intrigue for me.  Having said this, the couple of youtube videos that are out there from of him in 1981 are extremely interesting to me.  Then, he was a scrappy young photographer trying to make a name for himself and working hard at his craft.  That's the Joel that interests me the most...

 

 

I also love watching this video of Garry Winogrand from 1981....

of course they are practical.  

And it is a known fact that he took his technique in using his Leica from Garry WInogrand, who was older and already established at the time that Joel started...

Thanks, Henry.  One thing is for sure - no one can get offended when I have my camera so close to them; they really don't even know what I am doing (b/c it is so odd).  So in a way it solves a couple of problems  :)
