Ok, here what I meant.

On left, taken with my Leica and Summicron 3,5, on right, taken with my Sony RX-100. Both are reduced in quality for the upload.

The overall quality is quite good, even at the original dimensions. But the digital it's missing something... the deepness the "normal" photo has.

I still prefer to listen to the Beatles in mono on vinyl, than in stereo on cd.

Film is Ilford FP4 Plus 125.

Looking toward Fleetwith pike and Haystacks from Peggy's Bridge. Taken just before the recent floods in the Lake District, although there's a stream this is normally dry pasture.

Very atmospheric and the low viewpoint gives a huge sense of depth to the image.

Was quite busy lately, so I didn't even find the time to comment on the great pictures here over the last dozen pages. I will take my time and give some likes later :) On christmas eve I found an old Summitar under the tree. I had to repair the stuck aperture, but now it works like a charm. Here is a sample from the first roll of Tri-X I tried out with my new lens. I think this lens will stay on my Barnack  :D

I would like to thank  Ian, Chris,RP,Ileo, Ramarren for their interventions :)

I  take again the link from another thread where Graeme asks to  convinces him to buy the film M :
http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/255498-convince-me-to-buy-a-film-m/

I have commented in his thread  by making several contributions that you can read if you're interested. :)

In total and to finish with the post of Bill, I do not want to force people to abandon their digital cameras.

In this film thread, we appreciate the reproduction quality and fidelity of color and b&w of the Film.

And I'm glad that after two years of opening the thread "I like film” , many  LF friends are coming or returning to Film. :)

All of us , do we not look for the quality and the "artistic" side in a picture ?

In my post of the balloon above as I said , I  am lucky to fly during  3-4 hours and I can appreciate the color of these balloons and you can believe me when I tell you that the color that comes closest is the film and not the color coming from my M8 or M9 (I have  necessarily to correct... and I am not an expert) !

Again I repeat what I said here and I copied for you :

http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/255498-convince-me-to-buy-a-film-m/?p=2968588

"I no longer am interested in the digital for the reasons that I mentioned above.
I let people "formatted" to digital continue their shopping with each new release cameras.
I can also buy new camera but I am looking now for what is "artistic" in photography and it dictates to me that not
and that the film makes great service in photography and I think for still a long time , before I die anyway."

Long life to this thread and long life to the film. :)

I understand now why Quentin Tarantino and David Lynch turn their film "The 8 bastards" and "Twin Peaks" in 70mm film (Kodak) ,  for the "color and the quality" of film as said Tarantino

Best regards and continue to post your best and nice photos as usual.

Thank you for reading and supporting this thread :)

Best regards

Henry

Doc. the baloon pics are great.

Actually I'm not bothered nor anything else by the comments about digital. I also think like Doc, there's no comparison between the two. Film wins hands down. It's not my opinion, there are several comparisons on the net.

Having said that, I also have a digital, a small Sony and the quality is really great, and I'm probably about buying a Fuji. But when I compare it to my Leica IIIf, I understand why a sensor doesn't have the capabilites of the film. Maybe in the future, due the fact technology runs like hell, but it's like comparing vinyl to cds.

If you think there are programs to emulate in digital the scratches and hisses of the vinyl, you'll have difficulty to keep your jaw still attached to your mouth.

And, beside the technical side, if I think I have to spend some thousand Euros for a digital that 6 months later will probably sell for half of the price... it's like lighting a cigarette with a Euros 500 bill.

Ileo thanks for your comment and contribution. :)

I have tested several digital cameras including the Nikon D800 and 800E, the XPro1 Fuji, the Fuji 100S with the M8, M9, M7 and MP.

First remarks :

Leica lens remain by far the best

Film gives a clearly superior in terms of rendering and feeling

You look at a picture and you must have an emotion emerges when you look

The film gives a "soul" missing in the digital,  this is what my former advisor Leica now retired said.

Ileo I agree ,  me too

I listen now all my classical music in vinyl with my valves amplifier

CD are too agressive and hard to listen specially in high frequencies.

High Fidelity of sound and High Fidelity of image same fight :)

REALLY BAD NEWS.

I was putting my M6 down on my kitchen table and it slipped out of my hand. It only dropped about 8 or 10" and the table is wood but now the focus ring on my Summarit 35mmf/2.5 is really hard to turn.

I took the lens off to see if it was the camera but it's the lens.

So, I HAD to see if it affected the focus, and it seems not to have done anything negative in that regard.

Darn!

I'm leaving tomorrow morning to see my son off to his deployment to Bulgaria and this is a bummer. I'm glad the camera still works at least.

This is one of my test shots. I focused on the front edge of the bird feeder.

Kentmere 400 @320

HC-110B @ 17c

Rondinax 35U

Oh well. It gave me a good excuse to get a Summarit 50mm f/2.5 from Ebay. That way I can keep shooting while the 35mm is being repaired.
